Ekialde Frances showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wilfredo Xacintu, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Honesto Tovar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 11 minutes into the match, U21 Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Cuauhtémoc Tláskal came free, but Ekialde Frances reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Honesto Tovar in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Camilo Cesaro saved U21 Mexico from getting behind. In the 19th minute Wilfredo Xacintu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ekialde Frances saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 21 played minutes U21 Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Oxarra. Gonzalo Piarres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Ekialde Frances tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ekialde Frances stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cuauhtémoc Tláskal's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. 33 minutes into the match, U21 Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Cuauhtémoc Tláskal came free, but Ekialde Frances reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute, Gonzalo Piarres made a precise shot to the right of Ekialde Frances. U21 Paraguay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 37 minutes into the match, U21 Mexico's goalkeeper Camilo Cesaro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Pablo Zeballos. Ekialde Frances came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Mexico's Cuauhtémoc Tláskal. But to his dismay, Cuauhtémoc Tláskal quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 46th minute, Rico Galdeano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jorge Oxarra hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. U21 Mexico's Lázaro Cárdenas was substituted for Gonzalo Piarres. U21 Mexico's Daavid Ibrahimović was substituted for Cuauhtémoc Tláskal. After 48 played minutes U21 Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Oxarra. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.
