U21 Mexico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dušan Tadić was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-6. Junior Shevchenko might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Florentino Toro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Junior Shevchenko ran back to his position shaking his head. Florentino Toro came out of the goal in the 42nd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Serbia's Junior Shevchenko. But to his dismay, Junior Shevchenko quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-7. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-8.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Junior Shevchenko to strike the kick off in the second half. Florentino Toro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dušan Tadić, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 59 minutes into the match, U21 Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Junior Shevchenko came free, but Florentino Toro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Florentino Toro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nemanja Vidić, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 63rd minute of the match, Big Ben tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Florentino Toro saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Big Ben in the 93rd minute of play forced U21 Mexico's goalkeeper Florentino Toro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The U21 Mexico fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. U21 Serbia were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
