How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Hello everyone,

I've been trying to start up something of a programe with robok212 on how we train our youths. Apparently lots of other small(er) countries are very successful.

As some of you know this is my second term as NC for England. I've seen some strange players out there.. guessing that their managers are inactive. Been left on PI and passing for instance.. ;-)

It would be very beneficial for all if we start training our youths the same way for our future NC/NCAs. I'd love to see England more competetive. Help me out on this one.

This is our average joe for this years u21 England: http://mzplayer.se/?id=0324103589&lang=2

Seeing this player, what are your thoughts? What would you like to improve? What would you change? How can we pull the strings to the same direction?

This could also help any future managers train their own players and youths by giving them examples of what players should look like, maxings permitted.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Apart from maxings I would say a Average Joe is looking great at 20

You should see Scotland's average Jock .... I'll post one later lol

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Looks good at age 20. Only thing I'd suggest is getting one of the core skills (checking & shooting) up a bit more

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
The core skills are slightly lower as we thought stamina is very important and personally I think is a main skill.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Some skills are rounded up slightly because it's not possible to do half pucks. :-p
Here are some numbers for those who are interested.

1,2,3,2,3,2,1,1,2,1,3,1,2,1,1,1,2,1,0,2 1,6 avg PI
9,9,8,9,10,9,9,10,9,8,9,8,7,9,8,9,7,8,7,8 8,5 avg power
7,2,6,4,6,2,4,6,6,7,8,4,3,6,7,7,6,5,1,6 5.15 avg skating
2,4,1,3,2,1,1,1,1,0,3,3,1,2,3,4,1,3,4,0 2 avg passing
6,4,7,8,8,6,8,6,6,6,4,3,8,6,4,5,3,6,5,6 5,75 avg quickness
9,9,10,5,2,6,10,8,3,2,8,8,10,4,3,5,8,6,3,2 6,05 avg shooting

I could specifically turn my Hockey Team into a Youth Academy for you guys if that'll heighten England's chances xD

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
It would help out alot having another 20+ players being trained in the right way and always sent to TL.

Yeah, personally with Hockey and my current team I haven't developed much interest in it therefore I've gathered plenty of spare cash (3.9 million) so I was thinking about selling up (more money) and starting new with youths anyway.

I've got a youth academy currently that I'll be resetting. Now I know an average of what you guys want I can aim for that.

It would be useful to know the Average Joe statistics for each position.

Thats basically what I've done. Just got youths, gonna focus on making some amazing players.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Good to hear. :-)
What I linked in my first post is our current average U21 NT.
I'll post Average Joe statistics for every position but for a starter I'd love 8/9+ power and 6+ stamina. That is my "skeleton" which I build players on.

When I get to work tomorrow (haha) I'll start working on average winger, center and defender.
And for the love of God, don't forget our keepers!!

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Hey guys, Rushed straight to here after getting the GB message, I have got about 21 youths, I don't know how well they're getting on, I don't participate in any Uxx cups, But my seniors are acceptable, So I would LOVE IT IF YOU GUYS SPAMMED ME WITH FRIENDLIES!!

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Zeoh, can I suggest that you hire some coaches for your youths?
Also send them to training camp that always got power (unless maxed), secondaries that I like on camps are stamina, checking/quickness, shooting and skating in that order.

So their camps should always contain power, and preferably stamina untill they max in power and got 6+ stamina if I were to decide.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Will do mvalk, also guys spam me with invites to friendly matches as much as you can!!!

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Not bad Brian, considering Scotland have about 3 active managers.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Important skills Under21:
power: min 8 + training 9,10 pucks
skating/quickness: min 6-7
shooting: min 5 +
checking: min 5-6 if possible
stamina: min 5-6

I training every 3 seasons max 15 players for the U21 NT , now i not possible traning more because i concentrate on the senior competition...

my best U21 player: http://mzplayer.se/?id=0324195953
U23 squad: http://mzplayer.se/?id=0324190156

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Guys, I know it is hard to get the average Joe in every player we train. But every experienced manager knows that from each bunch of youth, by using righ training can produce about 2-3 valuabe players for U21 - Average Joes. The main point of all this action is to advice, inform and bring this idea for as much active managers as possible. Is big diffferent if thete are 25 or 75-100 average joes in whole country. I I would like to use this forum to share our opinions, training methods to help eachother in producing future great players. This will make all our teams stronger and our leagues more competitive.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Here's our average U21 lads
http://mzplayer.se/?id=0324190517
Intelligence 1.95
Power 8.3
Skating 5.9
Passing 1.55
Quickness 4.5
Shooting 6.7
Keeping 1.3
Puck Control 2.75
Checking 6.5
Stamina 4.7

I think they are ok, apart from stamina which I think 6 would be fine

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
We'll get there, Just need to put ALL of our efforts all of us active managers!!!

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
We have 7 active managers now. I think the next u21 team we have will be much more competitive

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
I'm fairly new to hockey, my first batch of youths turn 20 this season, made a few mistakes in first lot while trying to learn the game but i hope the next bunch will be alot better. have one special 17 year old thats not million miles away from the stranded required already, fingers crossed on maxings.

Would all English u21 and u18 FL help? will start joining them next season

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

I am effing impressed by people's replies. Never seen so many people reply so quickly.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

yeah, and everyone trying to help instead of complaining about something haha.. that's amazing!!

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
This is how our first line currently looks like, although they won't play anymore.

http://mzplayer.se/?id=0325085714&lang=2

I will make an average for each position when I have some time on my hands unless Matt or Rob gets there before me.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
They look excellent, We need to improve our 19 year olds so they serve as backups and can you show the best 19 year old and the average?

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
It would be too time consuming if I were to go through every 19yo that we have.
I'll collect the data from this seasons u21 England NT (unless Matt or Rob beats me to it) but you have to give me some time since I'm working "hard". ;-)

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Has a youth ever been selected for an England U21 squad?

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Not that I'm aware of, I haven't selected youths. On a regular basis they lack too much when they are 18.

Here is a list of this seasons U21 England. Unfortunatly it wasn't enough to get us through to top 16 which says that we are missing something.

Questions?

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
I've trained 6 keepers over the time and all maxed out at 7, getting very annoying.
My Youth should have primaries that's required but wont have the secondaries in time. Do youth training camps train players quicker then normal training camps? or both at the same rate.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
How long are you sending all your players to camp for? They train more and faster the longer they are at the camp. I suggest maximum lenght for all players.
Also coaches helps alot for when they're not at TC.

Never liked youth TC because you can't chose what they will be training on. As I said earlier in this thread all your TCs should contain atleast power.

Haha, No absolute pressure, You'll only need perhaps 3-5 19yo's prepped up

I am in the game since 2007 and it is many of seasons. In my very first season I fired almost all given team. I keep only the "best" + that I had 20+1 and 8 in Training camp. I won that 4.division with mostly 15 years old players, I trained them hard, using them for friendlies an league.
But my point is since my very first season , till now I was able to train by myself only one 10 puck keeper. I had 2 with 9 , than couple of 8, and plenty of lower values puck goalies. Some of managers get luck to train more, I havent maybe this is also your case. Try to focus than on other positions, make good sells and buy the keeper, this is what I did.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

I had a scout report GK, he got Keeping in youth camp 2 seasons in a row. And as a 2nd season youth maxed a 7 keeping.

Released him a few days ago....

Moral of the story is youth camp/scout reports are crap!

Indeed they are!!

My football team has that rubbish too, Speed and Stamina in the Youth Camps! Sweet right? This player's gonna be effective in my team!... Maxed at 6MZs in both... sigh

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Do you guys have any reserves that could join my team since I'm in a low league and I could use some and It'll also give them the chance to play more an improve :)

There's a spy! Get him! xD

Also does anyone know how long it takes to kick out your current Youth Academy when you've stopped investing money into it? I feel like it's been a week already and my current under-potential youths are still derping about.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Oh, why didnt you just swap them out?

hahahaha! (the joke).

And yeah I think mvalk is correct

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Well I could swap them out but I've only got 3 possible swaps right now and... 23 youths with absolutely no potential at 17 years old, no U21 quality there.

I'd rather scrap them all now and get 29 fresh youths at the start of the next season.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Don't forget they train at maximum speed until 21 or 23, I can't remember. So you have got at least 4 seasons and 4 TC's for those players. All hope isn't lost, yet.

Re: How can we make England more competetive?

Badge image
Well too late, they are outta here ^-^ I'll get cracking on preparing for the new guys!

Disagree with this a bit, I'd rather have a player on shooting, quickness, skating rather than power, shooting, puck control - its more important to me to try avoid passing, puck control and PI if possible. You have long enough in training an U21 player to add pucks in power once they're a senior.
