Here we go, men. The start of the Premier League season is days away.
I will be at Anfield for the early kick off; beer first half, bovril second half. Always. Probably play out a draw against Mark Hughes' free flowing Stoke outfit.
What are you fine gents saying about the ensung season then? Chelsea will win it says I. United, Citeh, Arsenal completing the top four. Spurs will lose Bale to Madrid shortly but still beat Liverpool to 5th in another forgetful season for us.
Cardiff, Hull and Palace straight back down I reckon. Though I would more so enjoy it if Villa, West Ham or Stoke were to in fact fall.
Hurrah. Football.

Wow, half of that did turn out, except for Liverpool being swapped with Man United in that sentence :P

My god, this is horrible. Gunners are my 2nd team after Palace and I'm hating watching this.

The first 20 mins of that Liverpool v Arsenal was the best football I have seen.
Hopefully they can keep up that quality.

That's interesting. Did not know that, and it certainly does not help his case!

Make that P49 W0 D19 L30 for Moyes. It's amazing how he's converted Man Utd into Everton within a season.

Re: Premiership 2013/14

all it proves is that fergie was the difference between a mediocre team, which Man Utd have been for a few seasons now, and a team capable of winning things. Without that edge, Man Utd are being shown up for what they are and Moyes' involvement imo is irrelevant. Anybody could be in there and having the same problems. Fergie knew when to leave, he wasnt stupid and knew the writing was on the wall. There is no doubt in my mind that if he had another golden crop of ex youth coming through he would still be there for another 10 years.
Ive no doubt once he has built his own team Man Utd will be back in the reckoning for titles, just as the team he built at everton are still just failing at making the top 4, once its Martinez' team they will be fighting relegation like the cash strapped club they are.
Liverpool's improvement has to be the story of the season for me, they are playing amazingly well and a great to watch, and to think how much their fans wanted rid of Brendan Rodgers after a couple of months too. I think if anyone 'deserves' to win the title then it is them, Arsenal are still dodgy as defensively and arent even that great going forward a lot of the time this season either while Chelsea and Man City are doing what you would expect of teams that are made up of the worlds most expensive players. At least Man City are bagging goals like they should be, although the are in 'crisis' now they failed to score for 2 games. lmao.
There must be some great odds to be had for picking the 3 teams who are going down, even at this stage of the season, as it seems a couple of crappy games and bad results and you are back in the crosshairs. I think Reithers giving away that penalty against Liverpool could be a vital moment of Fulhams season, but they did look good with Bent up front so may yet dig themselves out. My beloved Sunderland keep shooting themselves in the foot every time they look like creating a gap between them and relegation and Wes Browns red card versus Hull could be a defining moment given we still have to play arsenal, man city, liverpool, chelsea and man utd away yet. But hey we are still in both cups and are guaranteed a trip to wembley so its not a total wash. :)
for the record i think Cardiff, Norwich and probably Fulham are the 3 to go down. Id prefer to see Stoke go, and Hull but as long as its not us, im happy. :)

I hope Fulham and stoke don't go down. I'm not really a fan of either team, but I don't want to see Americans moving down the ladder. Much rather see them stay up. As for Sunderland... I would be ok if they went down because I hope that would for Jozy to move away from the club. They have absolutely 0 midfield.
United must be enjoying the week off of league action.

You and me both. Worst player ive ever seen, absolutely terrible. I think its almost heresy that he calls himself a striker as that implies he is capable of scoring a goal. His only strength appears to be just that, his strength and ability to hold up the ball until someone who can actually score gets up front with him. I know he is low on confidence atm but that is no excuse really, his finishing is terrible, he is slow and lazier than Kenwynne Jones (and thats saying alot). Watching him plod around the ground refusing to chase the game and make anything happen is painful every time im forced to watch it. If his name is ever on the teamsheet, then its already 10 vs 11, which is why red cards hurt us more than most i reckon.
If you want some kind of positive thoughts here, then if we were to be relegated then it might bring him down to a level he could function at maybe. Id imagine it would even be possible for him to score in the championship. Infact with him and Wickham, we wouldnt have a bad striking team for lower league football, hopefully our non existant midfield of Johnson, Larsson, Colback and Giacharrini can keep us up so we can do better next time.

Liverpool have been great to watch this season. The games are between midnight and 7am for us, but almost every game has been worth getting up for (bar Toure's contribution).

As a Liverpool fan , this season has been nothing short of exceptional. Playing the most attractive and consistent football in the league. I have been unhappy with only a couple of performances this season. The same could have been said for performances i was happy with last term.
What is now exciting is the run in. I feel Liverpool has the entire squad coming in to fitness for the last 8/9 games. Rodgers has implemented more than one system and successfully shifted between them as the season has worn on - the diamond against United being a recent example. The squad is happy to rotate and play to each others strengths.
My summary - Fitness: great, tactics: great, goal scoring: great, defence: questionable but improving, confidence: through the roof.
This. Could. Happen.

That was a worrying referee stuff up though... How do you mistake 2 players in a red card situation.

lol, crazy, but has happened before, and will happen again. Didn't one of the World Cup refs do the same a wee while back?.. rings a bell. It actually gave Arsenal a slight excuse in the end, because it looked to be going down the 5/6/7-0 road regardless.

One of the refs at the World Cup (Possibly Howard Webb) gave a Croatian three yellow cards before sending him off.

That's the first Sunderland game I've watched for a long time - if they play like they did in the first half all the time, I don't understand how they get anyone to their home games.
They were much much better in the 2nd half and made it a good game to watch despite the nervy finish.
Also, how good is Yaya Toure? He walks/lumbers around like he's playing against kids. I reckon he's the 2nd best player in the PL this season behind Suarez.

Every time I watch Man City, he seems to score a 25-yarder. He only didn't get a game for Barca because of Iniesta and Xavi. Also, I enjoyed this stat from the Manchester derby.

He didn't get a game because Busquets needed to be primed for Spain's National team.

The only thing that really proves is how little value the City owners put on defending.
Kompany is good and Hart was a really good deal when he was young, but City spent their money on a lot of strikers and come players that weren't on the pitch.
Aguero ~35
Jovetic ~22
Kolarov ~19
Garcia ~16
Negredo ~16+
Milner ~29 (WTF????)
Lescott ~22
Nastasic ~15
That's another 174mil on the bench... not to mention the cash wasted with a number of players that have come and gone (Tevez, Balotelli etc). Probably lost 100mil on them too.
That team of Man City is probably the best value (or cheapest?) team they can field. Navas, Dzeko and Nasri stand out to me as overvalued, though probably not by much...
Man U... I can't think of anyone valuable bar RVP missing from the sheet... Vidic would reduce the cost by 10-20mil.
Fellaini is worth a 10th of that, Ferdinand was good and is now aging, Jones and De Gea were not worth those prices either. Cleverley is also not worth that fee and Mata isn't being used properly to justify his fee (though he could probably be worth that in the right team).

Re: Premiership 2013/14

Mata simply isn't good enough. It's why he lost his place at chelsea. Lescott and milner are certainly overpaid

Nope. Not for a second. That's what he wants us all to believe as the pressure clearly got to his side against Palace.

Everyone is trying to deflect pressure. Chelsea are cracking, City showed signs of it and Liverpool thrived... Though I and probably every fan expects it to come, but top 4 is good enough for me this season if they can buy a few players in summer.
