Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) U21 Mexico's Anthony Carmine started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Samuel Nava fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Mexico's protests and gave Samuel Nava a yellow card for diving instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hugh Rondinelli in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Richard Murillo saved U21 Mexico from getting behind. Garnier Rusterholz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anthony Carmine in the 7th minute of the match. 8 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Switzerland's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Anthony Carmine was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Mexico's players had a chance to rest. With a little luck, U21 Mexico's Richard Murillo got control of the ball when Gaspard Rusterholz tried to sneak it across the goal line. Richard Murillo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gaspard Rusterholz in the 12th minute of the match. Anthony Carmine might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Garnier Rusterholz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Anthony Carmine ran back to his position shaking his head. Garnier Rusterholz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anthony Carmine, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 17th minute of the game. One of U21 Switzerland:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of U21 Mexico:s goal. Richard Murillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugh Rondinelli in the 24th minute of play. Hugh Rondinelli scored 1-0 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Richard Murillo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jonny Eberli got free with Richard Murillo in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Mexico's attentive Mauro Abel managed to snatch the ball when Gregor Beckenbauer made a throw-in in the 33rd minute of the game. Anthony Carmine recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Richard Murillo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jonny Eberli in the 39th minute. After having played for 40 minutes, Anthony Carmine managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anthony Carmine was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 41st minute, Umut-Ali Özer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Mauro Caviezel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mauro Caviezel to make the kick off. U21 Switzerland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Mexico the free kick. In the 91st minute, Gregor Beckenbauer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 95th minute, Ismael Casomiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. U21 Switzerland had played much better football throughout.
