After 28 played minutes, U21 Mexico's Landon Donovan shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Presiyan Vidinov came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in U21 Mexico reached it. Paulo Obeko made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emil Kostadinov in the 31st minute of play. After 31 minutes of play, U21 Bulgaria's Emil Kostadinov made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Paulo Obeko was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of U21 Mexico booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emil Kostadinov didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 43rd minute, Violet Shishedzhiev got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alejo Toro's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Presiyan Vidinov firmly grabbed it by the left post.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Landon Donovan to strike the kick off in the second half. Abel Delfino's late challenge caught a U21 Bulgaria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Delfino helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to U21 Mexico getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Abel Delfino hit a great ball. 70 minutes into the game, Landon Donovan cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Presiyan Vidinov was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 Bulgaria's Stoyko Ormanov was substituted for Zlatko Bondikov. In the 76th minute Landon Donovan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Presiyan Vidinov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
