In the 24th minute Agustin Mendiko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elmar van de Meerakker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Celestino Marques in the 25th minute of play forced Club Atlético Lanús's goalkeeper Elmar van de Meerakker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Brandsen reached it. In the 41st match minute, Club Atlético Lanús was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amadeo Chan to maneuver through the defense. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Elmar van de Meerakker showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The supporters of Brandsen booed when Club Atlético Lanús was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabricio Lain didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Agustin Mendiko made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petruț Spirache in the 54th minute of play forced Brandsen's goalkeeper Higinio Pello to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 62 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Lanús's goal looked a bit too open when Celestino Marques came free, but Elmar van de Meerakker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agustin Mendiko couldn't finish the play. After 76 played minutes Club Atlético Lanús got a freekick which was hit by Fabricio Lain. Rigoberto Gutierrez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elmar van de Meerakker having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Brandsen's Celestino Marques got a free kick in the 86th minute. In the 87th minute, Petruț Spirache ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Higinio Pello was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Despite being the better team, Brandsen failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
