Joel dos Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Fernando Simões, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. When Válter Furtado fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Arabela's protests and gave Válter Furtado a yellow card for diving instead. After 7 played minutes Joanesia got a freekick which was hit by Jorginho Mazza. Válter Furtado scored 0-1 in the 9th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Joel dos Santos, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 12th minute of the game. One of Joanesia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Arabela:s goal. Luís Fábio Palmeira placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Antônio de Andrade hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Jorginho Mazza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Durval Saraiva in the 27th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Cipriano Catarinense kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 2-1 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. Joel dos Santos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Guilherme Diniz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Antônio de Andrade managed to get in a good position for a shot. Arabela's supporters rose to their feet, but Antônio de Andrade was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joel dos Santos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 35 minutes, Luís Fernando Simões managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Arabela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís Fernando Simões was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 38 minutes into the match, Arabela's goalkeeper Cipriano Catarinense had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dadá Paraíba. In the 40th minute, Válter Furtado ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Joel dos Santos was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After some careless play in the Joanesia defense, Válter Furtado kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joel dos Santos. The Joanesia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joel dos Santos should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fernando Simões in the 48th minute of play forced Joanesia's goalkeeper Joel dos Santos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Joanesia players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Arabela were winning 2-3.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luís Fernando Simões to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Arabela's Luís Fernando Simões dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-4. After 55 played minutes Arabela got a freekick which was hit by Antônio de Andrade. Joanesia's Joel dos Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Fernando Simões in the 67th minute of play. 74 minutes into the match, Joanesia's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Fernando Simões came free, but Joel dos Santos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Joanesia booed when Arabela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tadeu Mesquita didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dadá Paraíba blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cipriano Catarinense having to make a save. Luiz Guilherme Diniz took the ball and in the 80 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joel dos Santos. Joel dos Santos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-5. Joel dos Santos made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Luiz Guilherme Diniz sent off a good shot on target. When Válter Furtado came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Arabela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Válter Furtado couldn't finish the play. Joel dos Santos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luiz Guilherme Diniz in the 87th minute. If Dadá Paraíba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dadá Paraíba received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Cipriano Catarinense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dadá Paraíba recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 94 minutes into the match, Joanesia's goalkeeper Joel dos Santos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luiz Guilherme Diniz. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luiz Guilherme Diniz got free with Joel dos Santos in the 96th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Arabela supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Arabela would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
