Donny Budikusuma's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thoyib Alatas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. U21 Malaysia's Bulsky Subagdja played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chairil Pelani in the 13th minute of play. U21 Indonesia were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after U21 Malaysia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Teddy Hutauruk took the corner. Azad Jasmin scored 0-1 in the 16th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Thoyib Alatas, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Thoyib Alatas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Azad Jasmin, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Bulsky Subagdja stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chairil Pelani's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. After 24 played minutes U21 Indonesia got a freekick which was hit by Ayi Kusumah. 27 minutes into the match, U21 Malaysia's goal looked a bit too open when Chairil Pelani came free, but Bulsky Subagdja reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After recieving a nice pass, U21 Malaysia's Awalludin Hassan tried to score from far away in the 35th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. U21 Malaysia:s Bulsky Subagdja showed great skill when he stopped Chairil Pelani:s penalty. In the 47th minute, Azad Jasmin made a precise shot to the right of Thoyib Alatas. U21 Indonesia's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Chairil Pelani to make the kick off. Reynaldo Osmond hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. 58 minutes into the match, U21 Indonesia's Chairil Pelani sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bulsky Subagdja narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 59th minute U21 Indonesia were awarded a corner. Teddy Hutauruk went to the cornerflag to take it. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Malaysia's zone, Chairil Pelani stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bulsky Subagdja came out of the goal and Chairil Pelani tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. U21 Indonesia's Didiet Suprianto was substituted for Anak Wolf. U21 Indonesia's Malam Senin got his second yellow card of the match in the 70th minute. The referee ordered Malam Senin off the ground. In the 71st match minute, U21 Indonesia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Malam Senin to maneuver through the defense. Awalludin Hassan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U21 Malaysia made a substitution. Robbie Suprianto replaced Hafiz Syarifudin. U21 Malaysia's Dian Oktavianus was substituted for Azad Jasmin. Ayi Kusumah sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donny Budikusuma in the 77th minute of play forced U21 Indonesia's goalkeeper Thoyib Alatas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. U21 Indonesia made a substitution. Kei Buan replaced Chairil Pelani. In the 82nd minute of the game Reynaldo Sinuhaji made a throw-in which Dian Oktavianus played forward. In the 89th minute U21 Malaysia were awarded a corner. Awalludin Hassan went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Awalludin Hassan almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Indonesia's Thoyib Alatas did a great save. Thoyib Alatas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dian Oktavianus in the 94th minute of play.
