Telman Räcäbov took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Aglauros Kavallieratos. Aglauros Kavallieratos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. A collision led to U21 Azerbaijan getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Aqil Mövsümov hit a great ball. Teymur Dünyamaliyev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kalkhas Souflas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Azerbaijan's Teymur Dünyamaliyev proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save U21 Azerbaijan from getting a goal against them. Kalkhas Souflas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Teymur Dünyamaliyev having to interfere. Teymur Dünyamaliyev stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kalkhas Souflas's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. Kalkhas Souflas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Teymur Dünyamaliyev having to make a save. In the last second Teymur Dünyamaliyev throw himself and got hold of the ball when Kalkhas Souflas in the 38thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. In the 41stth minute of the game Kalkhas Souflas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Azerbaijan's Teymur Dünyamaliyev was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Göyüş Ziyadov in the 42nd minute of play forced U21 Cyprus's goalkeeper Aglauros Kavallieratos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Inakhos Petropoulos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Teymur Dünyamaliyev showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kalkhas Souflas, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 59thth minute of the game Inakhos Petropoulos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Azerbaijan's Teymur Dünyamaliyev was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Inakhos Petropoulos in the 62nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Teymur Dünyamaliyev saved U21 Azerbaijan from getting behind. The supporters of U21 Cyprus booed when U21 Azerbaijan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abbas Ağayarov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Teymur Dünyamaliyev didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Inakhos Petropoulos went, in the 63rd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Inakhos Petropoulos in the 66th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Teymur Dünyamaliyev saved U21 Azerbaijan from getting behind. Kanake Despines did an outstanding performance 90 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 6-1 to the right of an irritated Teymur Dünyamaliyev in the goal. In the 93rd minute Kalkhas Souflas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teymur Dünyamaliyev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kroios Gomatos took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 99th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Teymur Dünyamaliyev. U21 Azerbaijan's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. U21 Azerbaijan's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
