The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Karl Ariesen helped the player get up and apologised. In the 15th minute, Karl Ariesen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 18th minute, Landon Holman made a precise shot to the right of Thore Hüter. U21 Germany's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Baba Tor might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Boyce Mathews. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Baba Tor ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, U21 United States's Boyce Mathews got control of the ball when Baba Tor tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 27th minute, Stanley Metcalf hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Evan Cohen kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. U21 Germany's Thore Hüter played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Landon Holman in the 33rd minute of play. Boyce Mathews didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erkan Cavic went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. In the 45th minute Evan Cohen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thore Hüter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jim Morrison made in the 47th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Felipe Mobley immediately put the ball in play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erkan Cavic was the one to do the kick off. Tyrell Houser charged in rather forcefully in the 50th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tyrell Houser the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to U21 United States getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. Tyrell Houser hit a great ball. In the 51st minute, Baba Tor ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Boyce Mathews was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. 56 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goal looked a bit too open when Baba Tor came free, but Boyce Mathews reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 United States's Tyrell Houser quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Karl Ariesen, made in the 59th minute of the game. U21 Germany's Kort Volk was substituted for Paolo Thälmann. Tyrell Houser made in the 62nd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Jim Morrison. After a rather tough play, U21 Germany's Karl Ariesen got a free kick in the 65th minute. In the 69th minute, Neal Chase hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Landon Holman struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Thore Hüter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 United States. If Baba Tor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Boyce Mathews took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Baba Tor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Landon Holman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Thore Hüter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the U21 United States defense, Baba Tor kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Boyce Mathews. The U21 United States fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Boyce Mathews should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Landon Holman in the 88th minute of play forced U21 Germany's goalkeeper Thore Hüter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Landon Holman struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Thore Hüter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 United States. The supporters of U21 Germany booed when U21 United States was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Neal Chase didn't get a good kick on the ball. The U21 Germany support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
