U21 Poland's Witold Bycofski started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute Wit Chuchro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Levon Sarkisyan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goal looked a bit too open when Jonah Ryan came free, but Gigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ty Boyce might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gigi Buffon. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ty Boyce ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 14th minute Shane Smiley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigi Buffon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Shane Smiley during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 15th match minute, U21 United States was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Shane Smiley to maneuver through the defense. Ryszard Komornicki took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Levon Sarkisyan. Levon Sarkisyan dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. 20 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's Witold Bycofski sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Levon Sarkisyan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 25 minutes into the game, Kamilo Glik was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Poland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 United States the free kick. In the 25th minute, one of U21 Poland:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for U21 Poland. In the 26th minute, Shane Smiley ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gigi Buffon was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. After some careless play in the U21 United States defense, Witold Bycofski kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Levon Sarkisyan. The U21 United States fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Levon Sarkisyan should have stopped the shot. 37 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goal looked a bit too open when Shane Smiley came free, but Gigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 38 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goal looked a bit too open when Jonah Ryan came free, but Gigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 40 minutes, Gigi Buffon successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The wind increased when Brock Friend made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ty Boyce in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gigi Buffon saved U21 Poland from getting behind. Wawrzyniec Pysz kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. The supporters of U21 United States booed when U21 Poland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wawrzyniec Pysz didn't get a good kick on the ball. 58 minutes into the match, U21 United States's Shane Smiley broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brock Friend in the 59th minute of play forced U21 Poland's goalkeeper Gigi Buffon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 60 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goal looked a bit too open when Brock Friend came free, but Gigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 64 played minutes U21 Poland got a freekick which was hit by Ryszard Komornicki. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ryszard Komornicki during the 67th minute. U21 Poland's Phillip Piątek quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Brock Friend sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. U21 Poland's Witold Bycofski was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Levon Sarkisyan in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Witold Bycofski put it in 2-3 from a short distance just to the right of Levon Sarkisyan. U21 United States made a substitution. Jerry Knowles replaced Shane Smiley. The U21 United States manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing U21 Poland to win.
