Ion Ion ran over to the corner to take the kick. It was a well-played corner which Cristi Vulturar managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Kirill Cherkashin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristi Vulturar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kirill Cherkashin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ion Ion, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. 9 minutes into the match, Romania's goalkeeper Mihnea Maruță had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aleksandr Tochilin. In the 12th minute Anton Ponomarev shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mihnea Maruță saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kirill Cherkashin came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Romania's Ion Ion. The audience was convinced that Dinu Jivulescu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kirill Cherkashin was relentless in the 31st minute of the game. Mihnea Maruță showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pavel Chernov, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. 35 minutes into the match, Russia's goal looked a bit too open when Ion Ion came free, but Kirill Cherkashin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dinu Jivulescu to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Romania booed when Russia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pavel Chernov didn't get a good kick on the ball. 53 minutes into the match, Russia's goal looked a bit too open when Ion Ion came free, but Kirill Cherkashin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A well-hit corner resulted in Dinu Jivulescu heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ion Ion in the 85th minute of play forced Russia's goalkeeper Kirill Cherkashin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Dinu Jivulescu came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Romania fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dinu Jivulescu couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gleb Bugaenkov in the 90th minute of play forced Romania's goalkeeper Mihnea Maruță to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Russia's goalkeeper Kirill Cherkashin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Stefan Bošnjak fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Russia's protests and gave Stefan Bošnjak a yellow card for diving instead. In the 94th minute, Stefan Bošnjak hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kirill Cherkashin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dinu Jivulescu in the 95th minute of the match.
