After 21 minutes, Ulizes Astorgano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Colombia and the U21 Mexico players grew even worse after the yellow card. U21 Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aurelio Benat was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Miguel Calero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Vela, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Colombia's Miguel Calero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aurelio Benat in the 39th minute of play. After 40 minutes U21 Colombia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Francisco Murillo who took care of the corner kick. After a rather tough play, U21 Mexico's Emanuel Neto got a free kick in the 44th minute. If Aurelio Benat had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After the first half U21 Mexico were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aurelio Benat stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan Corredor in the 62nd minute of play forced U21 Mexico's goalkeeper Alberto Gergori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Carlos Vela got free with Miguel Calero in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 75th minute Damian Vera shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alberto Gergori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alberto Gergori didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Juan Corredor went, in the 79th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Natalio Clodio kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. 87 minutes into the match, Juan Corredor notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of U21 Mexico's Alberto Gergori. Alberto Gergori was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 89 played minutes U21 Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Aurelio Benat. After 93 played minutes U21 Colombia got a freekick which was hit by Ulizes Astorgano. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. U21 Colombia had played much better football throughout.
