Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations of t

Badge image
The following is a reprint from the admin forum.

We are looking for retired Legendary Players from around the world.

Who would be part of the best XI from Argentina, Brazil, Sweden or any country in our beautiful game?

Who would be part of the best XI in a combined Euro XI vs the Rest of the World?

Who would be part of the best XI in England vs Germany?

We want to hear from the Zones and we want to see stories asking your communities who their best XI (and substitutes) would be.

They must be retired Players and they must have a story. It could be Ben Chepchumba, or Eden Schutt, or anyone. Their stories may be well know, or their stories may be awaiting discovery and publication.

They don't have to have the highest skills, they must have the best stories...

We would like to see special edition Zones created as quickly as possible, and/or articles in soon to be published Zones.

You never know what could come from this, it could be legendary....

With commited attacking play. As they're exhibition games so have fun.

Re: Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations

I've seen a few option 5 tactics as well, no wing tactics so far. Option 5 would be the safest bet, we could have a few for variety

Re: Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations

Badge image
Are those options your suggestions or what crew said we can have ?

What about
3 defenders
1 DM
1 CM
2 AM
3 strikers

Re: Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations

Badge image
We can do that as well. There are no set choices, we just have to agree on something ourselves. As long as we give them a tactic screen shot with the subs, mentality, pressing and positional players they'll do the rest.

Re: Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations

Our tactic is now setup. We're going with Dagg's ultra attacking 3/1/1/2/3 formation. With short passing, attacking, commited play.

It looks like this (disregard the bench in the image as I didn't have enough players on my tactic field to fill it out)

I believe it be this.

PS - I'm terrible at screenshot editing, but jogador kindly helped me out.

The starters

Strikers from the left - Irwin Finden, Murdock Rizzardo and Bickford Bundy
Midfielders from the left - Russ Colling, Bo Boylin and Cullen Rowdon
Defensive mid/sweeper - Berke Kean
Defenders from the left - Berry Beverley, Brian Beattie and Bishop Lawrence
Keeper - Hal Guy

The bench
Keeper - Downing Beer
Defender - Donovan Kuch
Midfielder - Munroe Waterland
Striker - Jessop Howard
Utility - Ivan Hogan

50th minute subs
Rizzardo off for Waterland
Finden off for Howard

70th minute sub
Bundy off for Hogan

In a short passing tactic Pincini and Cusbert miss out

It's a potent attack, death or glory in the midfield, with a tough tackling back four. Let's hope they aren't pulled out of position to often. These boys will entertain all day long.

The time has come for the next round of aussie legends to be inducted and added to the side. I'd like to add 4-5 players to the mix for the next legends tournament and we have plenty of candidates.

The current squad with their death or glory, all out attack and entertainment style had some good results and a few big losses. The link to the final table is below.

http://www.managerzone.com/?p=friendlyseries&sub=standings&fsid=572453

Early on our subs weren't coming off the bench and we got crunched hard, but once they came on things evened out. Fitting all our great strikers into that team was fun but we need a bit more down back and in the midfield. So yes some of ours strikers will not get a game in the next league, Ivan Hogan as great as he was has suggested that he give his spot up as other teams are taking these legends leagues to seriously, so before he gets a serious long term injury he'll move into an assistant coaching role for the aussie legends.

So the candidates are a mix of ages and like I said above I'm looking for the next 5 with an eye to improving our midfield, defensive and keeping options options. Both these utilities could play anywhere on the pitch.

Who do people remember most fondly or deserve there place the most?

GK
Paz Beattie
Elliot Cuddihy

Defenders
Roger Miller
Fabrizio Whitmore
Nilson Gruer

Winger
Belton Fordham

Midfielders
Connor Limmer
Neale Christini

Utilities
Brandon Pickhills
Amos Fazey

Whitmore played Welsh Premier League in one of the great teams of the era, and finished up playing in my mob for a while so had a successful run.

However I think if you're looking to beef up the mids is a toss up between Miller, Christini and Fazey.

PS - can you view all retired players stats? If not let me know and I'll make you NCA

That'd be great, I can't see the players balls as they stand now. But I've a general idea through being an NCA for a year or so and what I remember of them. That's why Fordham is on the list, almost no one who wasn't involved with the national team will recognise the name as he play overseas, but he was our starting winger when Pincini began to deteriorate. Connor Limmer sits in my retired list, he showed me the quality of player I needed to develop in order win the A-League and become a competitive club. Before I bought him I'd never got above Div 1.

The way I'm leaning is we need someone better in goals and Paz gets the initial nod over Cuddihy - But Cuddihy will make it in another induction group

Defenders - Whitmore for his past duties, even if he doesn't play he deserves his spot on the roster; Miller was an arounder, not very intelligent at 5 PI, but plenty of 9's elsewhere.

Mids - Christini, a glasston great, only 8 speed but 10's and 9's across the board. He retired before deterioration so he should still have 8 speed.

Utilities - then Fazey as he should have played more often for the NT but he is a quality players - Pickhills and Fazey are both equally matched so either can do the job, both have 9's in speed, tackling and shooting and where mostly used off bench because of their versatility to cover a defender/striker going down injured or as a late game sub. Though again, both will make the side eventually.

Accidently stumbled on this thread again while I was looking for something else.

Last post was 2015, I am interested in who would be added since then? Or do we feel like the heyday of Australia has passed and there isn't really anyone worth adding?

There’s definitely been some good players over the last 5-10 seasons for Australia. I’d have to go back during some of the old matches to find them though. The time when A-League was most competitive it’s been in a while about 7 seasons ago when Jimmy Pizza, Flying shellfish, Amputees, Red Devils and myself were all genuine contenders. There was some good Aussie players amongst the teams then.

These would be a few more recent names I’d add. I only remember them from owning them at some point or being in charge of the National team in some capacity over that time

Alberto Huntington
- Long standing winger and midfield

Abe Rose
- One of our first good wing strikers, was quite versatile too. Probably didn’t play as many games for his country as he should have.

Drake Butterworth
- Really solid striker but only had 7 BC and this turned off some coaches. Had high secondaries in everything and could have played as an Att mid and did for a while in the Top World League.

Arjen Lucassen
- Long standing keeper of modern times. Had a lot of balls and most were all in the right places

I note Doyle Knevett now holds the record for most caps with 40. At the time this thread was created he was still playing so didn't have the record and wasn't put in the team.

Referring to Boyde Minne ? I note his career finished equal 2nd for most caps and 5th for most goals for us.

Huntington I won't argue as the squad (to my knowledge anyway) should have more wingers
Lucassen I've never seen, I feel like we have had a number of great keepers over the years. I'm not sure how many keepers would be in the squad already.
Rose and Butterworth run into the how many strikers can you play issue. Like for comparison, probably Bundy has the weakest case of the existing legends and he still scored 32 goals from 20 games, compared to 19 goals from 16 games for Butterworth and 10 from 14 for Rose.

Pretty sure one of the most famous player in MZ history was Australian. I'm talking well over 10 years ago....

What was his name?

Re: Legendary/retired players for Australia/the smaller nations

As a defender Doyle Knevett was an absolute beast. I remember being NCA and found him already fully developed playing in some tiny backwater overseas league. I scouted him, I think Troyh65 was senior coach at the time as often his deputy and he immediately became the first choice defender as soon as he joined the squad. A truly outstanding player, that would immediately start for the legends as well.

Boyde Minne is the best striker striker we've ever produced, it doesn't come close. We've had good striker that are good all rounders, like Murdock Rizzardo, but as a pure striker Minne wins that contest for all time. He is an automatic selection.

For everyone interested and because it's rare Australia wins anything. It's time for our twice annual reminder that as coach with a lot of input from our then community Australia are still the reigning champions of the Legends league.

Here is a few I had laying around the club, and given their age, thats probably accurate.
I dont have Connor Limmer as he left for Jocks mob near the end of his career, and I did have Ivan Hogans as he is on my watchlist still, but it isnt showing any stats. His inclusion in the NT was always controversial due to his low stats but high scoring rate.
Also until this season, Edwin Bostock held the record for the highest transfer into Duffield Utd at 5.6mil, which shows how far this game has come.
Jarvis Unicomb hasnt been mentioned btw. :)
