Below are the guesses so far in the TZUSA transfer contest. Currently, I am thinking of letting it run until the next Zone USA is out if there are no objections.

Player 1 - $650 000
Player 2 - $550 000
Player 3 - $1 750 000
Player 4 - $600 000

My guesses:
1. $2,000,000
2. $700,000

Anyone have any thoughts on the loyal players article by zoraster? I found it a very interesting view of this new feature. One point which didn't really come up and as I have not read the entire thread on loyal players (shame on me) I don't know if it was touched on there either, new players may be compelled to try to match the quality of their loyal players when they enter the transfer market. This would result in new teams overspending on talent at a time when they should be saving cash and developing their stadiums. As someone who made that mistake, I can speak from experience that this leads to vast ups and downs and panic sales to try to stay afloat. Some may enjoy the roller coaster ride this leads to as you must sell off your good players to maintain a positive balance, but others may decide simply to depart the game rather than going bankrupt and having to start fresh again.

If anyone can't find it. The transfer contest results are in the MZUSA Federation article. Congrats to all who played and to the individual winners.

I read the Zone and enjoyed it very much. I, for one, really do appreciate the efforts of the Zone staff in putting together the magazine. For me it is the one time I get to catch up on what is going on in the other leagues (div 1 and 2), and also the insight of the divisional and national cups. Also the feature articles and interviews very news worthy, and provides different view points. Job well done.
zoraster's article was very interesting and very much in depth. I am not sure I totally agree that it is a bad thing for new managers. The revenue and expense gap might be much narrower with the loyal players but it is not a devastating loss of revenue that a manager who does a lot of reading, thinking and soliciting of help can't recover from and eventually get on track. After all, it is a management game, and long term. Many new managers will fail, and loyal players might accelerate that but mostly it will be cause the new manager made bad decisions.
As an assistant that is suppose to be in position to help managers with any questions as well as monitor the forums, I had to try to understand the effects of the loyal players. So, since I purchased the Jump Start Package which provided free membership in hockey, I decided to join hockey. Thus being a new member I got my 6 loyal players, and lo and behold one of them was scheduled to retire at the end of this season. lol
Anyhow, if you would like, I could try to put together an article for the next issue, recanting the trials and tribulations of a new manager with loyal players, and the revenue/expense issues faced. Grant you it is hockey but many of the issues are the same as in football. The main difference is my experience in football gives me better insight in making decisions, more so than a new manager who has no clue. Maybe I can imitate being a newbie, and put a little humor into it.

AARRGH!!! Such a frustrating result. Came back from 2 down, he gets a red card in the 65th minute and then scores the winning goal in the 112th minute. Granted, he did bring in two fresh players when he red card happened, still that's a lot of time to play a man down. Also, the winning goal was scored off a free kick, so I guess tiredness on his part was less of a factor. Still unbelievably frustrating.

OK. So clearly I'm not 100% satisfied with how my team is performing. How is everyone else feeling about their season as we approach the final week?
I know, yikes!! How did we get to almost the end of the season again. Anyone else feel like the season flies by and then the two week break just drags?

If you are willing to put something together I think that would be great. We usually try to put out a new Zone mid month, but if the experiment needs to run a little longer we could wait for the following issue. Or, if you are willing, you could do a couple of short pieces about your experiences as time goes on.

Hey, just looking to see if there is any general interest. nick_shopenko and I have been entertaining the notion of having a meet up at a Chicago Fire game and I wanted to see if there were other managers near the Chicago are who might be interested in coming out. There isn't a firm date yet, but we are trying to judge how successful it might be.

Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By nick_shopenko - 01-04-2014 04:03
Judging by the response to this post not very successful :) But even if only a few people show up I think it's worth the effort. Thanks tree_amigos for getting the word out, I know there are a few managers living in the Chicago area maybe we should contact them individually. If anyone is interested feel free to contact me or tree_amigos. The plan is to get together before a Fire game, have a few beers, talk about MZ and watch the game afterwards.

Next week I will begin sending out invites for the 25th edition of the MZUSA tiered friendly leagues. If you are a US manager and would like to join in this edition and did not compete in the last round, drop me a line either here or in my guestbook and I will put you on the waiting list. C and D league always seem to be in need of teams, so there is a good chance you will be added.

Meet up at Chicago Fire game details:
We are planning on attending the May 18th match. Kick off is 2 pm. Probably meet up before hand at about noon and then attend the match. Still haven't worked out all the details. Again, interested parties can contact me or nick_shopenko.
Here is the link for tickets. Corners are good views, Skyway (upper deck) is shaded, Harlem End is the supporters section. Since there is currently only a few of us attending, we probably cannot get group seats as the minimum is 15.

Somehow the D League has gone missing. I have sent a message to support to see what happened. If things cannot be recovered, I have a list of all but the last two teams to sign on - I was going to update this list this weekend when I discovered I couldn't access the league. If you were one of the last two teams to join, please contact me so I can be ready should we have to recreate the league.

Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By tree_amigos - 14-05-2014 14:08
OK, so turns out if you don't pay for a league in which you've agreed to pay for all before four weeks then the league just goes away. Haven't had this problem in the past because the league would always fill and be started before then. I will be recreating the D League to the best of my ability soon. Once you get an invite please sign up as we need to start the league soon to finish before next season. Thanks
Also, 3 spots still available for C League. Some "financial aid" is available.

Hey, Just joined again (played throughout college then work got in the way F tax season 2007). Not sure who is open to join the D league but up for it and can pay the credits if you need a last place team. Also up for friendlies any time if anyone wants just invite. Still trying to learn all the newer items but glad to be back, but a little sad so many less players :/.
On a side note I fired all of my regular players except loyal ones, and just have a full youth squad and spending the extra 50k a week on stadium upgrades. Does that sound aright as a low league club moving up, or is there a fundamental flaw?

Welcome back. Sounds like you are pretty much on track. Make sure you read the Beginners Guide...it might give you some insight on new features that have been implemented. Many things are new. Wouldn't hurt to read some of the manual, too.

Re: MZUSA Federation #14

Welcome back as well. Unfortunately for you we filled the last spot on the D League last night. I will add you to the list for next season. Be sure you sign up for the Welcome Cups. I believe they run about once every 3 weeks and are only open to newly joined teams. Plus they are free to join and a good way to get some extra cash. Good Luck.

Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By tree_amigos - 21-06-2014 05:04
So, three games left in the season and I am sitting exactly 9 points above the top of the three automatic relegation spots. I play the 10th place team Sunday, so if I win there I'm clear of automatic relegation and just need to keep above the playoff spots. I felt at the beginning of the season I'd be lucky to stay up. Fingers crossed.
How is everyone else doing? Are you meeting your goals or struggling to survive?
-
Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By dowopado - 21-06-2014 06:51
This season has been a real struggle. Lost 5 players from last season to retirement...have replaced some but its not like I have a stockpile of cash. Maybe I will be able to acquire 1 or 2 to beef up the team for next season, and make some noise. The new retirement system will definitely help even though I will still lose a player cause he is 38.
I remember you asked about what to do with the MZUSA tier league. I don't know how everyone else feels but I think the tier system is getting kind of old because we seem to be playing against each other all the time, and plus we are playing basically in the same League. Need something different, or just take a break for a season or two, then come back with a cup of MLS, div 1 and div 2. Maybe even allow other countries to join. That's my thoughts.
-
Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By mchutio_fc - 22-06-2014 05:22
I agree with dowo about changing the tier leagues. Perhaps using them to challenge other federation via FL or Cup?
-
Re: MZUSA Federation #14
By tree_amigos - 26-06-2014 13:55
Maybe making it a cup would be better. At least then there would be more of an element of competition. Don't know if you can do free cups like we do the free D League though. Willing to give it a try to see if there's interest.
I've tried challenging the Canadian and Mexican Federations without much success. Seems like most Canadian managers don't want to pay to join our friendly leagues. Perhaps moving off continent might help. We did have a challenge with the French Federation a few seasons ago.

I'd love to be involved in any new FLs you guys setup whether they are the traditional tiered system or not, let me know! :)
