How important is checking to a forward?? I have this forward:
http://mzplayer.se/?id=0702034017
He just maxed skating today, and I want to know what I should train next. If checking is important, I'd train that till it maxes. If not, I'd mix training puck control (for face-offs) and a little passing and PI (not sure which is more important)
Just want to know what more experienced managers have to say.

yeah 100% go for checking. People have mixed feelings about if Puck cntrl helps for face-offs and passing and PI are not taken into account with the hockey sim

Definitely train checking, it's much more important than everything else he's not maxed in.

Agree with killjoy and welshkamikaze. If and when checking maxes I would train puck control.

Thanks for the answers everyone, that helps. I'm going to assume the opposite as well, shooting is very important for a defenseman? I have a defenseman with 9 PW maxed, 9 CHK maxed,6 SKT maxed, 5 Passing (youth camps, ugh), 5 quickness, 5 stamina, and 2 SHT. I was planning on splitting stamina and quickness till they maxed, but should I get shooting up before I work on the others?
Sorry I didn't post a mzplayer, but I'm on my phone.

No... Quickness first then stamina. If they max then consider shooting

Stamina, quickness then shooting. I consider stamina as 3rd most important skill after power, checking/shooting.

I consider them as Important as each other.

Re: shooting for defenders, look at stats for the last league seaosn, see how many shots your defenders took and how many goals were scored. There's an argument to be made for PI (if you assume it is a skill multiplier) ahead of shooting. Of course you could also be developing a defender into a future center and want the shooting.

Re: shooting for defenders
If your D don't shoot then do as the monk.
But if you consistently win draws - then your D will shoot from the point.
Can't score any easier way ;)
And if they shoot but don't score - then they just might need some shooting practice!

Sort of related, so ill bump this post up rather than starting a new one.
I know quickness is important for defenders, so is low quickness a deal breaker?
I have this defender. http://mzplayer.se/?id=0716171377 I was excited when his power hit 9 and his checking not max at 9. He also has impressive stamina. Unfortunately, he maxed out quickness at 5. If I keep training him, assuming he doesn't max low (or relatively low) on the other unmaxed skills, would he still be a vital key to defensive core that will hopefully compete in the top USA division, or should i sell him now knowing that a 19 year old with 9 power, 10 checking, and 8 stamina will get me a lot of money?
Thanks for the help everyone.

@oilercountry
I won the Swedish League with defenders at 5 in quickness.
It is all about combining the different players in correct pairs, not about having 8 cloned D's.
imo!

Thanks - got pretty lucky, I guess!
But I do think that a lot of managers forget to combine different type of players. They would prefer to just have the same player in almost every position. That might work, but since no one until now have been able to afford that, maybe a better tactic would be to use what synergy there is in MZ to enhance poor attributes on specific players by combining them with linemates and d's with a different profile on their attributes.
MZ is not hockey-IRL but you don't want a team with 8 Prongers nor with 8 Erik Karlssons. 4 of each would be pretty awesome though! =)
