Rupert Sutton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cuauhtémoc Tláskal in the 3rd minute of the match. U21 Canada's attentive George Ellis managed to snatch the ball when Cláudio Suárez made a throw-in in the 4th minute of the game. In the 6th minute Metin-Oktay Sönmez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Camilo Cesaro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eidur Gudjohnsen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rupert Sutton having to interfere. After a rather tough play, U21 Mexico's Braulio Michael got a free kick in the 20th minute. Camilo Cesaro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Metin-Oktay Sönmez in the 21st minute of play. In the 22nd minute U21 Canada were awarded a corner. Troy Holmes went to the cornerflag to take it. After having played for 26 minutes, Metin-Oktay Sönmez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Canada's supporters crossed their fingers, but Metin-Oktay Sönmez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Brent Ring fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Camilo Cesaro having to interfere. Camilo Cesaro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Metin-Oktay Sönmez, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. After 36 minutes U21 Mexico's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Troy Holmes who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Brent Ring got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Camilo Cesaro quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Camilo Cesaro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Metin-Oktay Sönmez's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Metin-Oktay Sönmez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Camilo Cesaro having to interfere. 45 minutes in the game, Daavid Ibrahimović fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Rupert Sutton having to interfere. Metin-Oktay Sönmez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Camilo Cesaro having to make a save.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Metin-Oktay Sönmez to make the kick off. Braulio Michael was shown his second yellow card after 52 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 52nd minute, Braulio Michael hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 55th minute, Humberto Velasquez reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Camilo Cesaro. The goal made the score 0-2. If Metin-Oktay Sönmez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Humberto Velasquez kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Camilo Cesaro. That made the score 0-3 in the 65 minute of play. If Metin-Oktay Sönmez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. U21 Mexico's Camilo Cesaro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save U21 Mexico from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, U21 Mexico's Camilo Cesaro got control of the ball when Humberto Velasquez tried to sneak it across the goal line. Lawrence Dykes hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, U21 Mexico's Samuel Urbes got a free kick in the 94th minute. The U21 Mexico fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. U21 Canada were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
