The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The crowd rose to their feet as Fernando MacDonald kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Eldar Buffon. That made the score 2-0 in the 9 minute of play. The supporters of U21 Montenegro booed when U21 Scotland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricky Morgan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Evan McPherson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Eldar Buffon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernando MacDonald in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eldar Buffon prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 23 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Montenegro's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ricky Morgan was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Scotland's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Ricky Morgan almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Montenegro's Eldar Buffon did a great save. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Finlay Davidson managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Scotland's supporters rose to their feet, but Finlay Davidson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eldar Buffon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fernando MacDonald blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eldar Buffon having to make a save. 30 minutes into the game, Fernando MacDonald lined in a short shot 4-0 behind a frustrated Eldar Buffon. Fernando MacDonald recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 39 minutes into the game, U21 Scotland's Fernando MacDonald nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eldar Buffon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. Jim Dove showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stanko Drenovac, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. The audience was convinced that Fernando MacDonald's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eldar Buffon was relentless in the 47th minute of the game. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-0 at half-time.

U21 Scotland had played much better football throughout.
