It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Maksim Lazarevski kicked off to start the match. Jikolo Sewele made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jovan Markićević in the 7th minute of play. Jikolo Sewele made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Maksim Lazarevski sent off a good shot on target. When Antonio Brđanin fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Montenegro's protests and gave Antonio Brđanin a yellow card for diving instead. In the 10th match minute, U21 Montenegro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Brđanin to maneuver through the defense. Lazo Markoski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albert Shoba in the 14th minute of the match. U21 South Africa were awarded a corner in the 15th minute after U21 Montenegro's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Lebang Qabi took the corner. The corner ended in Lebang Qabi almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Montenegro's Lazo Markoski did a great save. Lazo Markoski came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 South Africa's Albert Shoba. But to his dismay, Albert Shoba quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 32 minutes into the match, U21 Montenegro's Živojin Jeknić sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jikolo Sewele narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jikolo Sewele came out of the goal in the 33rd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Montenegro's Jovan Markićević. But to his dismay, Jovan Markićević quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. After 45 played minutes U21 South Africa got a freekick which was hit by Dean Liau. After recieving a nice pass, U21 Montenegro's Antonio Brđanin tried to score from far away in the 46th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Albert Shoba to make the kick off. Maksim Lazarevski scored 3-1 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jikolo Sewele, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. U21 South Africa's Jikolo Sewele played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maksim Lazarevski in the 56th minute of play. Jikolo Sewele showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jovan Markićević, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. 60 minutes into the game, Maksim Lazarevski cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-1. Jikolo Sewele was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 South Africa's Jikolo Sewele played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jovan Markićević in the 66th minute of play. U21 Montenegro's Rudi Vučinić was substituted for Živojin Jeknić. William Fortuin hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. 76 minutes into the match, U21 Montenegro's goalkeeper Lazo Markoski had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Albert Shoba. Jikolo Sewele made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maksim Lazarevski in the 81st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Montenegro's zone, Lebang Qabi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lazo Markoski came out of the goal and Lebang Qabi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rudi Vučinić in the 84th minute of play forced U21 South Africa's goalkeeper Jikolo Sewele to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of U21 South Africa booed when U21 Montenegro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antonio Brđanin didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Maksim Lazarevski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Terence Takalani fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 South Africa's protests and gave Terence Takalani a yellow card for diving instead. In the 94th minute, Terence Takalani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Montenegro's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
