Guatemala's defense didn't have a chance, in the 15th minute, when Demetrius Playo scored to the left of an out of position Cesar Batres, making the score, 1-0. In the 19th minute Guatemala were awarded a corner. Amilcar Murgas went to the cornerflag to take it. Guatemala's Amilcar Murgas was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ulpiano Torrijos in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 21st minute Hugo Padilla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ulpiano Torrijos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 21 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Padilla came free, but Ulpiano Torrijos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ulpiano Torrijos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Misael Cerna, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Demetrius Playo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31st match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Demetrius Playo to maneuver through the defense. With his leg Cesar Batres managed to avoid a goal in the 35thth minute, when Panama's Demetrius Playo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oscar Rey in the 36th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Ulpiano Torrijos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cesar Batres was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Demetrius Playo showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 39 minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Cesar Batres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Demetrius Playo in the 51st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Guatemala's zone, Demetrius Playo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cesar Batres came out of the goal and Demetrius Playo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Demetrius Playo might have been able to make a better finish in the 55th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cesar Batres. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Demetrius Playo ran back to his position shaking his head. If Demetrius Playo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Guatemala's Cesar Batres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Demetrius Playo in the 58th minute of play. Demetrius Playo might have been able to make a better finish in the 60th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cesar Batres. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Demetrius Playo ran back to his position shaking his head. After 63 minutes Guatemala's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ivan Oberto who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Wilfredo Navarro managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Demetrius Playo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Guatemala's Félix Rivera was substituted for Hugo Padilla. Ulpiano Torrijos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Misael Cerna in the 70th minute of play. 74 minutes into the match, Demetrius Playo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cesar Batres. Guatemala's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Demetrius Playo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Demetrius Playo in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cesar Batres prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 80th play minutes Demetrius Playo shot 4-0, a short shot which went by Cesar Batres and just under the crossbar into goal. Guatemala made a substitution. Ricardo Gallardo replaced Salvador Berrueta. 85 minutes into the match, Guatemala's goal looked a bit too open when Demetrius Playo came free, but Cesar Batres reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Demetrius Playo in the 86th minute of play forced Guatemala's goalkeeper Cesar Batres to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 89 minutes, Demetrius Playo made it 5-0 with a short kick to the right side. Guatemala's Cesar Batres tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
