Spectators: 10310 (Terracing: 7733, Seating: 2371, VIP seats: 206) 6 minutes into the game, Vionis Spahiu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Mark Caruana Curran was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 10th minute, Mujo Curri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kevin Nowell got free with Fotaq Strakosha in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Malta's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Aaron Bonniċi in the 19th minute. Fotaq Strakosha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kevin Nowell in the 24th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kevin Nowell got free with Fotaq Strakosha in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 29 minutes U21 Albania's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Aaron Bonniċi who took care of the corner kick. The corner led U21 Malta's Aaron Bonniċi to fire away a dangerous shot which Fotaq Strakosha despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Jeton Noka sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Cousin kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, U21 Albania's Neritian Ahmeti got a free kick in the 41st minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
