Hubert Ehrl came out of the goal in the 15th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Ernest Nedelcu. But to his dismay, Ernest Nedelcu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 23 minutes into the match, U21 Romania's goal looked a bit too open when Konstantin Willkomm came free, but Emil Aldulea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hubert Ehrl showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ion Oblemenco, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The U21 Germany supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching U21 Romania's performance. The match ended with a win for U21 Romania.
