The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Bulgaria's Vihar Hrusanov slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Albert Schimmel. That made the score 1-0 after 8 minutes of play. After 11 minutes of play, U21 Germany's Otfried Streitenbürger made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Boycho Kamenarski was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 13th match minute, U21 Germany was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by György Gronen to maneuver through the defense. Albert Schimmel was a little too slow when Vihar Hrusanov got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 15th minute. The score was now 2-1. Vihar Hrusanov struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Albert Schimmel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Bulgaria. Zlatko Bondikov kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. U21 Bulgaria's Boycho Kamenarski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olaf Waidner in the 27th minute of play. In the 28th minute Vihar Hrusanov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Albert Schimmel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Albert Schimmel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vihar Hrusanov in the 28th minute of play. In the 32nd minute Otfried Streitenbürger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Boycho Kamenarski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Boycho Kamenarski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from André Rogosch in the 35th minute of the match. Vihar Hrusanov blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Albert Schimmel having to make a save. Thanks to some nice moves Vitko Seymenov could shoot a difficult shot in the 40th minute, which Albert Schimmel however easily saved by the left post. 42 minutes into the match, U21 Bulgaria's goal looked a bit too open when Olaf Waidner came free, but Boycho Kamenarski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of U21 Germany booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miho Hamar didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Vitko Seymenov made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vitko Seymenov in the 50th minute of play forced U21 Germany's goalkeeper Albert Schimmel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice moves André Rogosch could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Boycho Kamenarski however easily saved by the left post. U21 Germany's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Simon Ripp in the 57th minute. Evtim Bandrov tried in the game's 57th match minute to clear up in front of his own goal but it went so bad that he put the ball into the goal to the left of an unhappy Boycho Kamenarski. An annoying self made goal, 2-3. Otfried Streitenbürger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Boycho Kamenarski made a huge save. Olaf Waidner's late challenge caught a U21 Bulgaria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Olaf Waidner helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, U21 Germany's Olaf Waidner got a free kick in the 63rd minute. If Vihar Hrusanov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 64 minutes into the match, U21 Germany's goal looked a bit too open when Vihar Hrusanov came free, but Albert Schimmel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Miho Hamar hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. U21 Germany's Michael Werkmeister was substituted for György Gronen. If Olaf Waidner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, U21 Bulgaria's Krasen Balevski got a free kick in the 71st minute. U21 Bulgaria's Boycho Kamenarski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Bulgaria from getting a goal against them. U21 Bulgaria made a substitution. Evlogi Vachev replaced Evtim Bandrov. U21 Bulgaria's Belcho Asyov was substituted for Vitko Seymenov. U21 Germany made a substitution. Olaf Skrentny replaced Otfried Streitenbürger. 81 minutes into the match, U21 Germany's goal looked a bit too open when Vihar Hrusanov came free, but Albert Schimmel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Vihar Hrusanov had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Albert Schimmel. U21 Germany's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vihar Hrusanov was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-3. Boycho Kamenarski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olaf Waidner in the 88th minute of play. 92 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Germany's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Zlatko Bondikov was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Bulgaria's players had a chance to rest. A well done corner resulted in Evlogi Vachev drilling the ball in to score 4-3 behind U21 Germany's goalkeeper. Albert Schimmel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vihar Hrusanov in the 96th minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The U21 Bulgaria fans cheered their team off the field, for while U21 Germany had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
