In the 10thth minute of the game Manole Bernea who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Portugal's Diamantino Amaro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vasile Buligan got free with Diamantino Amaro in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 19th minute Manole Bernea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diamantino Amaro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diamantino Amaro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Florin Huțupan in the 29th minute. Diamantino Amaro was a little too slow when Florin Huțupan got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 30th minute. The score was now 2-0. In the 34th minute Florin Huțupan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diamantino Amaro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th minute Sérgio Neto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Remus Blajovan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Remus Blajovan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eusébio Porto, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Florin Huțupan in the 63rd minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Diamantino Amaro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Portugal's zone, Vasile Buligan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Diamantino Amaro came out of the goal and Vasile Buligan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Romania's Eduard Popoacă was substituted for Florin Huțupan. Romania's Mugur Zglobiu was substituted for Eusebiu Bratu. Portugal's Paulo Tavares was substituted for Sérgio Neto. Lucrețiu Bucuță kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. Remus Blajovan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eusébio Porto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Remus Blajovan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorge Mota in the 75th minute of the match. Romania made a substitution. Laurențiu Bănățeanu replaced Costin Jivulescu. After 79 minutes Romania's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nuno Anjos who took care of the corner kick. After having played for 80 minutes, Eusébio Porto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portugal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eusébio Porto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute, Jorge Mota reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Remus Blajovan. The goal made the score 3-1. In the 86th minute of the match, Jorge Mota tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Remus Blajovan saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. A collision led to Portugal getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Vítor Machado hit a great ball. Jorge Mota sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Romania's zone, João Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Remus Blajovan came out of the goal and João Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Romania were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Portugal for a fine match.
