Rusty Little didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 4 minutes, Santxo Saboya managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD Municipal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Santxo Saboya was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 7th minute, Bart Greenwood hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 8 played minutes, CD Municipal's Santxo Saboya shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jim Mitchell came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in CD Municipal reached it. In the 14th minute, CD Municipal's Cedro Villaelrriego seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cedro Villaelrriego the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of CD Municipal protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cedro Villaelrriego had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 14th minute of the game. One of CD Municipal:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Santos FC:s goal. 25 minutes into the match, CD Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Rhett Flanagan came free, but Orlanda Zumiel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 28 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Homer Diggs. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Santxo Saboya managed to get in a good position for a shot. CD Municipal's supporters rose to their feet, but Santxo Saboya was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jim Mitchell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santxo Saboya in the 30th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Jim Mitchell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hans Ladd in the 32nd minute of play forced CD Municipal's goalkeeper Orlanda Zumiel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Leon Burr notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of CD Municipal's Orlanda Zumiel. Orlanda Zumiel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 41 played minutes CD Municipal got a freekick which was hit by Jaime Maliaño. 43 minutes into the game, Kris Marks cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Orlanda Zumiel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Leon Burr sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jaime Maliaño to make the kick off. After 50 played minutes CD Municipal got a freekick which was hit by Angelo Meruelo. 58 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Maliaño came free, but Jim Mitchell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 61st match minute, Santos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Homer Diggs to maneuver through the defense. When Angelo Meruelo fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CD Municipal's protests and gave Angelo Meruelo a yellow card for diving instead. Orlanda Zumiel was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Hans Ladd showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 64 minute of play. Santos FC's Rhett Flanagan got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jim Mitchell came out of the goal in the 70th minute to try and stop a shot by CD Municipal's Jaime Maliaño. But to his dismay, Jaime Maliaño quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Kris Markss short, quick shot in the 73rdth minute got Orlanda Zumiel to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 81 minutes into the game, Carmelo Arruda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. CD Municipal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Santos FC the free kick. In the 83rd minute, Rhett Flanagan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jim Mitchell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Maliaño, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Santos FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
