With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nathanial Sutherland in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Andy Madsen saved Club Deportivo Leon from getting behind. Andy Madsen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ervin Lowry, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Fenerbahce SK were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Nathanial Sutherland who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 51stth minute tested the skills of Andy Madsen when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Damien Keith received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Claudio Avalos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
