After a defensive mix-up in AGF 22 de Janeiro's zone, Laerte Leão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Eduardo Arósio came out of the goal and Laerte Leão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Laerte Leão could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Carlos Eduardo Arósio made a huge save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Eurico Motta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Eduardo Arósio having to interfere. When Adalberto Velloso came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the AGF 22 de Janeiro fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adalberto Velloso couldn't finish the play. Valdemar Meireles took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jardel Matos. Jardel Matos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Luiz Eduardo Britto hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match.
