Aspremont's Vergil Kyurkchiev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jean-Paul Coroller in the 40th minute of play. In the 41st match minute, Aspremont was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Serge Broyer to maneuver through the defense. Stade Rennais's Youssef Stalin shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 42nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Vergil Kyurkchiev but with some difficulty. Vergil Kyurkchiev made a fantastic save in the 44th minute, when Gameiro Leman sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Aspremont getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Paul Schmitz hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that René Argentin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vergil Kyurkchiev was relentless in the 46th minute of the game.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Serge Broyer to make the kick off. Stade Rennais's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
