In the 18th minute, Wally Guzman ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rene Higuita was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Colombia's Cristiano Ronaldinho got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Canada's goalkeeper Gilberto Boone, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The corner ended in Archibaldo Velaz almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Canada's Gilberto Boone did a great save. Cristiano Ronaldinho scored 2-1 in the 33rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gilberto Boone, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 36 minutes into the game, Wally Guzman cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Rene Higuita was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Canada's Gerardo McMillan was substituted for Roberts Lewandowski. In the 81st minute of the game Ross Patten made a throw-in which Murat Dogan played forward. Manel Fonelleda made in the 87th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Don Gato. Rene Higuita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Murat Dogan in the 92nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Murat Dogan in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rene Higuita saved Colombia from getting behind. 96 minutes had been played when some careless play by Colombia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Eli Stoddard was slow to take the kick. During this time Canada's players had a chance to rest.
