The mood of the audience was pleasant when Vitaliy Eliseev made the kick off which started today's match. Stanislav Haprov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastian Bach, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. Stanislav Haprov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bērtulis Pupurs in the 5th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ernest Chokmorov during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of U21 Latvia booed when U21 Russia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ernest Chokmorov didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernest Chokmorov in the 12th minute of play forced U21 Latvia's goalkeeper Gaidis Vaicahovskis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, U21 Russia's Ernest Chokmorov got a free kick in the 14th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Uvis Ūpis got free with Stanislav Haprov in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to U21 Latvia getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Jēkabs Ēvelis hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sebastian Bach in the 24th minute of play forced U21 Russia's goalkeeper Stanislav Haprov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, U21 Latvia's goal looked a bit too open when Vitaliy Eliseev came free, but Gaidis Vaicahovskis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Russia's Stanislav Haprov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bērtulis Pupurs in the 28th minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Latvia's Sigurds Kiriks got a free kick in the 31st minute. Stanislav Haprov came out of the goal and Andžejs Baumerts tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. U21 Russia's Ernest Chokmorov got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 92nd minute, Aļģis Engers had to leave the field with a concussion. When Bruno Bruno fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Russia's protests and gave Bruno Bruno a yellow card for diving instead. In the 93rd match minute, U21 Russia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruno Bruno to maneuver through the defense. U21 Russia's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
