The referee ignored U21 Pakistan's protests and gave Shamshad Khwaja a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Philippines booed when U21 Pakistan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shamshad Khwaja didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Pakistan's Inzamam Kaleem got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to U21 Philippines getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Daniel Gabuat hit a great ball. 41 minutes into the match, U21 Philippines's goalkeeper Irvin Macandog had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Inzamam Kaleem. If Nawaz Saeed had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

After some careless play in the U21 Philippines defense, Nawaz Saeed kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Irvin Macandog. The U21 Philippines fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Irvin Macandog should have stopped the shot. When the referee blew the final whistle, U21 Pakistan could leave the field as winners, despite U21 Philippines having more of the ball for most of the match.
