A collision led to U21 Georgia getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Irakli Cholokaev hit a great ball. Roman Burduli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Harry Formosa in the 10th minute of the match. The supporters of U21 Georgia booed when U21 Malta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudio Jaccarini didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 14th minute of the match U21 Georgia got a corner. U21 Malta's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Zaza Kalashnikov ran over to the corner to take the kick. Roman Burduli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Giuseppe Preca in the 17th minute of the match. In the 21st minute Clyde Azzopardi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roman Burduli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Harry Formosa managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Malta's supporters rose to their feet, but Harry Formosa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roman Burduli breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Roman Burduli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chris Gilson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

U21 Malta made a substitution. Daryl Talbot replaced Jake Brockdorff. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Giuseppe Preca made a kick off. After 52 played minutes U21 Georgia got a freekick which was hit by Uta Magalov. Giuseppe Preca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Roman Burduli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Giuseppe Preca recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Roman Burduli made an important save on a dangerous shot by Clyde Azzopardi in the 61st minute. Irakli Cholokaev kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. U21 Georgia's Takha Neparidze was substituted for Irakli Cholokaev. U21 Malta's Lawrence Casa was substituted for Dejan Hamilton. Irakli Cholokaev hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. 67 minutes into the match, U21 Malta's Clyde Azzopardi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roman Burduli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. U21 Georgia's Roman Burduli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harry Formosa in the 68th minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Malta's Martin Bonnici got a free kick in the 71st minute. 73 minutes into the match, U21 Georgia's goal looked a bit too open when Clyde Azzopardi came free, but Roman Burduli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 75 played minutes U21 Georgia got a freekick which was hit by Zviadi Machaidze. In the 76th minute, Zviadi Machaidze hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 85 minutes of play, U21 Malta's Sean Cauchi made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Roman Burduli was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 89th minute Takha Neparidze shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tyron Mifsud saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 96th minute, Bukhuti Mkheidze left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Georgia fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Malta walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
