In the 3rd minute Pirro Candia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Darryl Parker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Darryl Parker was out of position in the 9 minute of play, and Lucas Meza capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Lucas Meza really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. The supporters of U21 Costa Rica booed when U21 Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denis Inestrosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 24th minute Ignacio Meckel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teyo Ordoñez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pablo Llanos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Darryl Parker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gustavo Gomez hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. 35 minutes into the match, U21 Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Lucas Meza came free, but Darryl Parker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Teyo Ordoñez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elam Vicioso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 40 played minutes U21 Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Raul Heredia. In the 40th minute of the match Miguel Ciscal shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Darryl Parker showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. U21 Paraguay's Teyo Ordoñez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ignacio Meckel in the 42nd minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, Elam Vicioso cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Teyo Ordoñez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Lucas Meza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Darryl Parker made a huge save. After 47 minutes of play, U21 Costa Rica's Ignacio Meckel made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Teyo Ordoñez was left in no man's land by his defense there! Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Pirro Candia to strike the kick off in the second half. Pirro Candia took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Darryl Parker. Darryl Parker dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. U21 Paraguay's Benedicto Malet was substituted for Pirro Candia. In the 67th minute, Elam Vicioso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Parker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benedicto Malet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Denis Inestrosa kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Ignacio Meckel's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 71stth minute, Teyo Ordoñez skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. U21 Paraguay's Teyo Ordoñez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Paraguay from getting a goal against them. In the 80th match minute, U21 Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Blas Hernández to maneuver through the defense. Teyo Ordoñez was a little too slow when Rafa Barrantes got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 83rd minute. The score was now 3-3. 86 minutes into the match, U21 Paraguay's goalkeeper Teyo Ordoñez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ignacio Meckel. Benedicto Malet scored 4-3 in the 95th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Darryl Parker, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. U21 Paraguay had won after a very even match.
