Capello Gone

Badge image
Finally got a post in before jamiescfc2010.

So Capello gone... thoughts?

Good that he stood up when the FA obviously kept him out of the loop.
Better that he has gone because he is a crap manager for England.
Worse 'Arry Redknapp gets the job.

(1) Part of the general stupid situation with Terry. How they could've gone ahead and decided about removing his as captain without having Capello involved and "on board" is a bit beyond me.
(2) Not particularly fussed he's gone. Consider him to have average (at best) skill as a coach and man-manager, his skills being much more suited to the club game than any national team.
(3) Wouldn't be all that pleased to see Redknapp appointed and even less so if Stuart Pearce. The former I see as adept at club management but not all that great as a coach. The latter hasn't done anything anywhere that shows me he's got any real talent as a coach or manager.

People mention the timing of Redknapp's "not guilty" verdict but what of the current timing that Jose Mourinho is unhappy at Madrid, Madrid aren't all that happy with him, and he wants a return to the English game? Dare we dream?

I would also be quite pleased to see Guus Hiddink appointed.

It's a shame Martin O'Neill is just starting out with Sunderland, else he would've been an excellent candidate. And lastly, although I doubt his chances, I'd be happy to see it given to Roy Hodgson.

And Kevin Keegan's available.

I wouldn't mind Trevor Brooking as caretaker to get us through the Euros given the horrific nature of some of the other candidates being touted (Pearce & Southgate), as a short term fill-in provided that he'd get some heavy duty coaches in to fill out the staff (Peter Taylor & Ray Wilkins anyone?).

I get the impression that the first requirement of anyone taking the England job will be to announce that to avoid distractions they won't pick John Terry until after his court case (and only then if he's cleared).

Becoming abundantly clear that the opinion inside football is that Harry is the only candidate in which case may as well give him the job as no other realistic English/British candidate has enough of a CV to avoid the press going after them if they got the job instead of Harry (maybe Hodgson has but the press would savage him).

I don't think Capello ever really understood what he was getting into with the England job - no real experience of working with English players (and a rocky ride with Beckham at Real Madrid) and poor command of the language gave the impression he didn't really understand the mentality of the players and unsure of his ability to communicate to them.

For similar reasons can't see Jose taking the job - can't see the FA paying the wage he'd demand and whilst he'd have the press on his side (at least initially) and wouldn't have any problems communicating with press or players, I don't think he'd fancy the idea of putting a team together restricted to just the available 'talents' of English players. Having a select group in a Chelsea team (Terry, Lampard, Ashley & Joe Cole) augmented by key foreign players isn't the same thing and I rather suspect Jose knows that all too well.

as a sunderland fan, id have no problems with oneill taking over just for the euros, yeah we havent had many great managers in recent years, but ive never seen a manager have this much of an impact on a squad ever for sunderland, and since redknapp at tottenham, id love mourinho though, his press conferences are amazing haha

Steve Kean for England, the London media keep saying how good a job he is doing at Blackburn, and how the Rovers fans are so wrong, then maybe the FA should appoint him England boss.

Well he is a great manager so it is a loss from that point of view. However you have to question whether he was totally motivated. Rooney out for two games, is captain in disgrace again and no doubt rifts in the camp. I think he looked at it overall and decided that it was one straw too many.

I think we need an English manager and Harry Redknapp is the best candidate. Stuart Pearce will be the caretaker until the Euro's and then Harry will be installed for the Euro's is my guess.

If Harry does not want it then I guess that it comes down to Hodgeson, Pardew and Pearce for the job. Beyond that you are looking at people like Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce, Nigel Adkins, because there are not a lot of top English managers out there at the moment.

Gareth Southgate would probably struggle to get the respect I think.

If they go overseas then Hiddinck is the best placed to take over I think.

Jose will win the Spainish League and European Cup and come back to Chelsea.

"nomercyurz (RA) (GPA) Today 10:21
Steve Kean..."

Ehehe :D

Megson! Avram Grant! Bryan Robson! Sven! Let's get like an "untouchables dream team" of coaches!

The Gareth Southgate idea is a joke, surely.

coming soon to imdb

The Uncoachables (2012)
The nation expects - disappointment!

The summer's sleeper comedy has seen a spike in interest this week following weeks of superb viral marketing campaigns and the shock departure of experienced Italian director Fabio Capello who's artistic interpretation reportedly did not find favour with the studio. Rumours suggest wily veteran Harry Redknapp may be persuaded to take the helm although he may have struggle to reconcile his interest with his current commitments. Apparently much of the work has already been done, though this is some final location work to be done in Poland & Ukraine.

Director: (vacant)
Assistant director: Stuart Pearce
Producers: David Bernstein, Alex Horne, Dave Richards

Starring: John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard

Rumours suggest there may be cameos from Joey Barton and Wayne Bridge although the full cast has yet to be confirmed, more to follow in the coming months....

Re: Capello Gone

Personally, I think England should choose someone everyone hates, atleast then a good manager doesn't get turned on. Capello (albeit sucked when it mattered) had a win percentage of 67%, that's 6 wins every 9 games, the other three were draws and losses. Bloody good form to be fair, that sort of form would win you leagues, cups or qualification to the Champions league in club football.

Re: Capello Gone

Mauricio Espinosa! Or maybe Sepp Blatter, if it wouldn't present too much of a potential conflict-of-interest.

Re: Capello Gone

What about Dalglish I despise him at the moment over the Suarez incident but I ain't going to make this into a issue but personally Harry imo the perfect candidate for England job.
