Just wondering how people think the groups will pan out...and will YOUR country qualify ?
Remember with the top 2 auto qualifying and all third placed teams going into play offs......the Scots, Welsh, N Irish and Rep Ireland have surely never had a better chance of getting through ?
24 teams will make up the biggest ever Euros in France 2016.
So....can Scotland (1998)...Wales (1958)....N Ireland (1986 ?) and Rep Ireland join England (surely they can't blow that group ?) and will we see all FIVE nations there ?
Thoughts ?

Belgium will fly through and normally Bosnia should get the 2nd place but they lost there first match. Wales barely scraped through against Andorra which is a similar (though slightly better) team compared to San Marino. Monday is an important match for Belgium a against Bosnia.

The key for the Celtic nations is to not slip up against the weaker teams....and try to win their home games. I have a feeling Scotland will qualify this time and can see the others making a real fist of it.
Massive game for Wales tonight.

I think Scotland and Wales have a decent chance of qualifying for the first time in many years, both have good young talent coming through for the first time in about 20 years, ok a lot play for lower premiership / championship teams but with the amount of foreign players in the premiership the quality has shifted down and having watched Blackburn in the championship for a couple of seasons now, don't let the media who wet themselves over the 'big four' degrade the actual quality of football being played by the young Scots, Welsh and Irish at the smaller clubs.

Agreed James....I thought Wales could have won that game last night. Although Bosnia were dominant with the ball Wales had some really good chances. Williams miss was a bad one.
Very big game for Scotland today. Has to be 3 points.

Yes, I'm counting Gibraltar, I hope they can get a point out of these qualifiers.

Absolutely.....seems some of the big guns are suffering World Cup hangovers.
Brilliant result for Wales tonight considering they went down to 10.

ha ha........ I'm a great believer in scoring at least one more goal than the opposition to win a game ;-)
Poland 1 Scotland 2 Naismith & Anya.

Great response from Scotland, conceding and then scoring within 6 minutes! Still plenty of time left in this match to get a win.

Yeah ....bad touch by Hutton for the Polish goal but Anya gives Scotland that extra dimension.....Scotland can definitely win this.
...and meanwhile N Ireland 1-0 up at HT in Greece......and the Republic holding the Germans.

Absolutely astonishing start by the four UK nations and Rep Ireland to this campaign.
All 5 qualifying is definitely on.!

Crazy game between Serbia & Albania, I know it was all political, but it went crazy after one of the Serbian players got hold of a small drone with a Albanian flag on it. I thinking they should redo the draw as these matches get too out of hand as politics and football should NEVER mix.

Unfortunately when nation plays nation you can't get away from politics James. I think they'll probably replay it behind closed doors.

It was not a flag. If it had been a flag only, then nothing could have happened.
Truth is totally different.
It was not a flag but a propagandistic-abusive map of greater Albania, showing half of Serbia, FYROM, Greece and Montenegro conquered by the Albanian State.
It was abusive and challenging in a negative way for the Serbian crowd and for most Balkan states.

Greece sucks because of Ranieri's bad decision. He is a total loser, I dont understand why we hired him, after been unsuccessful in most clubs he managed. He is unaware of the Greek Football reality as well.

By botha - 15-10-2014 23:18
Nikolazpsadmin thank you for bringing out the truth.
It wasn't a flag of albania, it was nazi flag of so-called Great albania... Can you imagine Germans to put out some nazi flag from WW II during the match against Poland??? That would be madness and the whole world would protest, but no one cares for Serbia :-(

Irish playing well but I do fancy Scotland to win that one. Danger man for the Scots is Anya....he gives them pace, width and a real counter attacking option.

Yeah it's a shame it doesn't happen too often. We all usually end up in different groups.
It would be fun, one day, to see a group of:
England
Scotland
Wales
Northern Ireland
Rep of Ireland
and if we needed a 6th team... Gibraltar

I agree! Got to say, Scotland's team isn't going to be a walk-over... I hope the friendly will not be an excuse for us to play softly though ;)
I don't want England to hide behind the "Oh it was a friendly" excuse if we lose haha

A good set of matches this week from the UK lads:
6-1 vs Gibraltar,
4-0 vs Lithuania,
3-0 vs Israel,
2-1 vs Finland,
Congratulations to Gibraltar for their first ever competitive goal!
Oh and great work from former Reading FC Striker Shane Long who clinched a late equalizer against Poland for Ireland.
Happy Days. I don't want to jinx it but right now currently all the UK teams are in a qualifying position (including Scotland, they are the best 3rd place team currently) which makes Group D really interesting. The next Ireland VS Scotland match will be crucial.

Agree, what a mess since the world cup. Still, there's hope to qualify and Hiddink has a huge reputation when it comes to these international matches.
Another surprise: Greece. Even the Faroer islands manage to have more points, what's happening over there?

I follow only Albanian and Italy, I don't think Albania will qualify though they have not been bad so far. Italy, will probably end up second to Croatia, they are looking terrible.

It was a fair draw. :)
In groups A, C, and G, there are some surprising leading teams like Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria.
I personally like Belgium, there a lot of talented players in their squad.
For me, Romania is also a big surprise :)

@geoclphredux, watched part of it, Italy got nothing right now, England has some really good young players. I think though England need a different manager.

2 words: Claudio Ranieri. Nothing more, nothing less.
Our stupid Federation President appointed a coach with no national team experience, bad at player psychology, making awefull desicions in player call-ups. He was not even watching Greek players playing for their clubs, he was not even living in Greece like our former managers (who were keeping up with the country's football matters). This man is known for being the total loser of football and has made a fortune by all those release-compensations he received. We made him richer by 1 milion Euros...in a time where financial crisis has hit hard. Pathetic. Fortunately the Greek Federation President resigned and got lost, after this fiasco.
It is not a surprise that team played their best match in Hungary, reminding of the old times, with a new manager that trained the team for only 4 days!!! Sergio Markaryan, the Armeno-Uruguayan manager, had previous Greek Football experience, had managed National Teams before, is an expert in player psychology....and managed to make the team better in just 4 days. That's the difference. Raniery failed to inspire and make the players confident, while Markaryan managed this. Better days are coming.
samwinch wrote:

When the first 3 qualify for the Euro, and you are in a Group like the one we are both, you expect Romania to finish 1st or 2nd. It is not a surprise. Romania performs as expected, Greece is not.

Well it's nearly a year since I posted this.....
All 4 home nations are still very much on for qualifying.
Wales and N Ireland should secure their finals place this weekend....whilst Scotland still have a shot at 3rd and a play off.
England as expected qualified today.
Scotland were woeful against Georgia....but I expect a deffierent performance from the Scots on Monday against Germany.
Biggest story of the tournament so far (apart from Wales and N Ireland) has to be Iceland ! Home and away victories over Holland.
