By rockstarroberts - 04-08-2013 21:46
I keep getting destroyed in faceoffs. I know it's random, but this is ridiculous

It's not that random. You need a few skills to win this.

like what, I know checking is supposed to do something, but I put someone there with good amount of pucks in checking and he got destroyed, it's random

I believe Puck control and PI have a influence

no, I had a guy with puck control too, and PI does nothing

Puck control. I pretty much kill every opponent in faceoffs, even when I am totally outmatched.

My players with high PC tend to do better in face offs.

he is right. with more puck control on your center you will have more chance to win the face offs. is the only skill that matters for this.

These are the faceoff stats for my four centres during league play this season.
W L
1. Ramiro Kelly 36 21 63% (6 Puck Control)
2. Blaine Obrien 28 23 55% (3 PC)
3. Ronald Wiggins 22 16 58% (7 PC)
4. Mieszko Walczak 12 15 44% (2 PC)

your league must be weak or something, 3 PC and 55% doesnt make any sense, the same with Walczak

I think PC is important, but there's definitely other skills that contribute towards face-off percentage.
I'm in your league roberts (as you know), and here is the breakdown of my face-offs.
Luis Gustavo Lopez - 59 FW 23 FL 71.95%
Cameron McQueen - 46 FW 22 FL 67.64%
Valor Mavrogheni - 20 FW 11 FL 64.52%
Roosevelt Medrano - 3 FW 6 FL 33.33%
LGL, with the highest percentage, only has 3 PC. BUT, he has 9 CHK and 6 PI, the two other skills I believe may have some influence (CHK > PI). McQueen, with a slightly lower percentage, is way different. He has 7 PC, but only 2 CHK (and 2 PI). Mavrogheni has 5 PC (just hit 5, was 4 for most of the current season) and 6 CHK. Medrano has 4 PC and 3 CHK (hit 3 a week ago), and thus, the worst face-off percentage.
Maybe Malkin's players with low PC but high face-off percentages have high checking. That's my guess.

To the contrary Roberts, I believe his league is much stronger than ours. I just played him, lost, and won 13% of the faceoffs. What I noticed from looking at his record (and the way he pounded me), your players tend to win a majority of faceoffs when you win. If you lose, you're probably not going to get much higher than 50-55%, assuming its a close game.

I try not to play friendlies on Mondays, challenge me on Tuesday instead.
My league is top heavy right now, with myself and one other team being much stronger than anyone else in the division. If you take us out of the way, the strength of the leagues are probably pretty similar I bet. I just played the other top team in my division and got massacred in the faceoff circle. Here are updated stats with Checking and partial pucks gained from training included (all have 1-3 Play Intelligence so didn't check that):
1. Ramiro Kelly 37 26 (59%) 6.2 PC; 8 Che
2. Blaine Obrien 30 28 (52%) 3.9 PC; 6 Che
3. Ronald Wiggins 23 23 (50%) 7.0 PC; 8 Che
4. Mieszko Walczak 14 17 (45%) 2.7 PC; 7 Che
I also played 3 Instant Matches with the same team and results in the faceoff dot varied widely, but mostly none of my centres got to 50% against that opponent. Ronald Wiggins went 1 for 8 in the league game but fared much better in the instant matches, just a fluke he did so badly in that game I believe, with 7 PC and 8 checking he should do better.

I too have done some basic analysis on my team's faceoff percentage. I've considered PC to be the least important skill overall to train, so none of my players have very much in it. Here are my team's last 20 or so league game stats:
Wayne Gifford: 55 won/97 lost (36.2%) 3 PI, 2 PC, 7 Check
Stacy Tillman: 60 won/85 lost (41.4%) 10 PI, 1 PC, 7 Check
Clayton Cho: 95 won/86 lost (52.5%) 8 PI, 2 PC, 8 Check
Laurence Varner: 54 won/53 lost (50.5%) 7 PI, 3 PC, 9 Check
Correlation in Excel gives a value of 0.47 to PI, 0.48 to PC and because malkin included Checking in his stats I get a whopping 0.81 for Checking.
