Could you explain your theory a little further or is it just an oracle?

What's the weather like in Madrid?

Re: Germany will fail again

So Bayern are up 4-0 from their semi-final 1st leg, Dortmund 4-1 from there's, and yet you think a German club will win a major trophy at club level?! Bold prediction. "The oracle is telling me it'll be an all-German final AND a German team will win!" Okay...

Similarly, given that all but 1 country in the world are going to fail to win the World Cup in 2014 (a tradition that continues from all previous tournaments), bold prediction that for whatever reason Germany might be one of those many that doesn't win the tournament, rather than the 1 that does. Oracle says "You must just live life on such a gambling knife-edge..."

I predict England :) will beat San Marino 'one more time' but I predict they will fail once again to win the WC Brazil 2014 , but I predict this 'only' if they first manage to qualify for the WC.

What you mean like Barcelona and Real Madrid did in the past 48 hours?

Re: Germany will fail again

yes, all three are the same really

I predict the WC2014 Brasil winner will beat the other finalist.

Re: Germany will fail again

When you say "fail," you mean they won't win the world cup? I could have told you that. USA all the way!

Seriously though, I wouldn't bet against the German side in '14. Not right now.

Re: Germany will fail again

always bet against the Germans, you'll usually end up happy

Re: Germany will fail again

Germans have been the most consistent in WC.
Spain with such a gd squad never did gd at WC over so many yrs until the current Gen.
So comparatively they do far better. If u notice in WC the team with best chemistry usually makes it to the finals n not necessarily the best talent.
And team chemistry they always have.
Winning or losing dont matter because as long germans are there they bring life into WC.
hail germans :)

Germany is the only nation to make it to the semis more than once in the last 3 competitions ('02, '06, '10). And they have made it to the TOP 3 on all 3 occasions! They are highly consistent. Back in 2010 I thought the young German side did extremely well and that in 4 years time when some of their best young players (Badstuber, Khedira, Müller, Özil, Kroos) gather more experience, they will be a very hard team to beat. Now, 2014 is closing in and with the emergence of power from Bayern and Borussia, I see them as one of 3 favorites to win the WC2014. They are stronger than last time and they are definitely my pick.

Re: Germany will fail again

Brazil wont win the World Cup even if its in their own back yard, they are exactly like Spain all attack and no defence. Physically they're not a threat and lets not even start about Ariel ability..

Re: Germany will fail again

The next WC winner will be one of the following teams, mark my words:

Germany
Argentina
Italy

and in that order are the odds . Brazil is a young inexperienced and irregular team at this point , and I bet for Argentina in spite of the odds :) (if we could just only improve our defense and GK :/)

and the Spain era is over for good... the forwards and midfield except (Xabi Alonso) are those of Barcelona and as I said in another thread they just can't score (w/out Messi). Villa, Pedro rarely score and are irregular players as Cesc as well. Torres doesn't exist simply. Xavi and Iniesta are the gems. But Xavi is slowly but surely losing his shine unfortunately.

Argentina, no way. quarters maybe max. Italy is a total surprise package. All depends on the schedule. If less rest time their old guards wont be able to give their best.
Thats what happened in the last euro. Had they been given more time the score wld have been different.

Spain, Germans, Netherland n dark horse france.

Re: Germany will fail again

no European nation has won the world cup when it has been hosted in South America, that trend will continue, they are highly consistent, and highly choke artists

Re: Germany will fail again

Of the European sides, I think Germany are the best at the moment and have the best chance in 2014. They've got one of the world's best keepers in the form of Manuel Neuer, Schmelzer and the ever-excellent Lahm as fullbacks, strong central defensive options with Mertesacker, Badstuber and particularly Hummels, up front they've got Gomez, Podolski, Reus and the ever-green Klose... and midfield... stunning. Defensively there's Khedira, Sven and Lars Bender, Gundogan and Schweinsteiger, and for more attack-minded, Ozil, Gotze, Schurrle and, emerging as one of the finest in the world, Thomas Muller. Not to mention that there's still time for young hopefuls like Julian Draxler, Moritz Leitner, Emre Can and Nils Peterson.

Spain, as river alluded, look dangerously like returning to their classic problem, which is lack of goalscoring. David Villa clearly isn't back to his old self yet, Pedro although with a decent record still for Spain isn't scoring for Barca, Torres isn't worth discussing, Llorente hasn't had much club playing time and hasn't scored for Spain since 2010... the only other striker with caps in double figures is Alvaro Negredo with 14. A lot will probably fall on him, if we don't see the national emergence of someone new, perhaps Tello, Michu or, if he makes some sort of blistering progress like Thomas Muller did for Germany in 2010, Gerard Deulofeu.

Still, Spain second, because you can't argue with the midfield quality and they have probably the finest goalkeeper in the world (still), Casillas. In goal and midfield they're equals to Germany, but the Germans have superior defenders I think, certainly as Puyol ages and suffers injuries and Pique's form continues to be suspect, and certainly Germany has a superior selection of forwards/srtikers.

After them, I don't know or much care. I don't see anything all that inspiring to France, Holland, Portugal, Italy or England, and not beyond them either.

In the wider world we can surely only look at South America. Argentina, Brazil and perhaps Colombia as a dark horse.

Of course we don't know who'll emerge before the tournament, which players will hit form, who'll get the luck, but in many ways I think I'd choose Germany as my favourites for it... if it wasn't taking place in South America, so I'll say Argentina ;p

Exactly. Still more than a year away, the competition is not in total focus at the moment. There are always important injuries and suspensions, and young players who step up in big moments. Not many people expected Franck Ribery to contribute much a year prior to the 2006 competition. Same with Thomas Müller last World Cup.

That said, Germany should have as good of a chance as anyone and a better chance than most. As KJ pointed out, they have great skill at every position with plenty of viable replacements.

I wonder what a team with Kompany, Hazard, Courtois, Dembélé, Vertongen, Mirallas, Witsel, Dufour, Vermaelen, Benteke, Fellaini & the likes would do ...

Re: Germany will fail again

fellani is decent, but Belgium wont be surprising people till possibly 2016 Euro, then 2018, their time is coming though

I would put a sneaky punt each-way on Belgium on winning Euro 2016, I had an interesting chat with a Belgian friend about it and he reckons they will surprise a good few teams.

But for the WC2014, I would back Argentina at 6/1 since the climate will suit them and South American teams.

Re: Germany will fail again

To be fair, Germany are good and the amongst the best in Europe but they're not great.

Look at Per Mertesacker for example, he's at the heart of the German defence and he gets mocked every week for Arsenal on MOTD.

Hey oracle, it's about time, that this trend comes to an end ;) But thanks for this nice thread!

I just hope, Germany won't have to play Italy on the way to the final, they are "our" bogey team..
Anyway, I would bet on Brazil and Germany for the final, but still hope for an African/ Asean surprise team..

Nice discussion going on here.
Well everyonone must admit that Germany has several players that now passed the threshold to be be considered world-class.
The current CL semifinals are a good indicator for the form curve but I admit they count for nothing at the 2014 WC.
Germany has already 3 WC titles and yet has never been so dominant as they are now (not even 1974 or 1990). Still there are maybe 5 Nations that can win the WC and the fact that it's hosted in South America makes it interesting and less likely to have another european dominated tournament (7/8 last semifinalists (2006 and 2010) were european teams).
So, it will be tough for Germany to win the thing, but as kingjamie pointed out - the depth and the quality of the German National Team can now really challenge Spain and I wouldn't bet a serious amount of money against Germany winning the title this time.

Let's see, I personally see Marcel Schmelzer (even though I am a Dortmund fan) currently as a weak spot, as his offensive skills are still somewhat limited.

I don't think that Mertesacker will play full back at the WC - if Badstuber recovers it will be him and Hummels.

Let's see - can't wait until it starts.

I would be interested to see how Badstuber and Hammels do in a major tournament as I said Mertesacker is slow and Germany have some fantastic young lads coming up but we will see :)

Re: Germany will fail again

Badge image
I think Badstuber and particularly Hummels are the strongest, but to me Mertesacker is one of those guys who has spent his whole career getting run-down by this or that expert, perhaps not having this or that attribute they'd like to see, but ultimately still delivering. Thomas Vermaelen is no slouch, captain of his national team and linked with Barcelona, but Wenger has often preferred to select Mertesacker in partnership with Koscielny. I have no issue with it perhaps being him and Hummels. He's not mobile, which on a bad day can be exposed, but he's hugely experienced (nearly 10 years of national football, not so far from 100 caps), commanding in the air, good strength, good positioning and decent passing. Low and Wenger endorse him, should be enough for most.

Re: Germany will fail again

Badge image
Not sold on any of Boateng, Badstuber, Hummels or Mertesacker defensively at centre back, but if they can keep position and push the other team back then the team can protect them from being too exposed - similar to how Pique looks great when Barca are dominating.

Re: Germany will fail again

Badge image
Pique is probably the pinnacle of that type of defender haha
