Possible responses:
(1) His calendar must be wrong, for some reason displaying April the 4th.
(2) It is someone obscure who happens to have the name or nickname "Messi", but is nothing to do with Lionel Messi of Barcelona.
(3) The club is like a bridge club, a chess club or a tennis club or something, and Messi will be joining and playing their when not busy with Barcelona or Argentina.
(4) The boss of a football club in Shanghai is in danger of being sectioned on the grounds of being severely delusional, with the evidence being his claim that Messi will join his club next season.
I will go for (3). Perhaps it's even a new Chinese branch of Barcelona fan club? :)

To kingjaime:
Probably you consider it as a joke while I regard Messi as a definite business.
when the boss of Shanghai Club said he would bring Drogba and Anelka to China Super League last season, nobody believed him and damned hime to hell.but he did it and surely have found a better solution to the super star's transfer. The solution depends on the huge market and fulfill the player's value.
for example, Drogba made money not only from his annual salary, but also from his shares as a representative of a online game.you can image its value that the number of the game's fan reachs 100 millions.
whether Messi will appear in the field of China Super League next season, let's wait.

I could believe it of Anelka and, if a little bit less so, Drogba. These are players the far side of 30 and, like the names others have guessed, likely to be looking for a relatively sedate league where they're earn some top money. What could we say, it's like the J-League back in the day, with Lineker and Zico et al, or MLS, or Qatari league... And like those leagues, I don't see the Chinese league as attracting top younger talents. I think Messi has too much love for Barca to leave for any team, but to think of him leaving the Spanish league for anywhere other than Italy or maybe England (in our wildest dreams), would be basically unthinkable. Maybe when he's 36 or so.

to safctillidie:
a guy with a good imagination. as if it is a joke, I will manage to send those opinions to the boss of Shanghai Club.
To be honest, I hope Kaka could come to China, who has millions of chinese fans.
His influence is heavily beyond to Beckham's.
Of course, football fans hating him in china is huge too, because he defeated MU with his own power in 2007.
He will earn all he hope including not only money but also fame.

kaka is a possibility as he is aging, however again, i think an even older player maybe more adequate. maybe lampard will consider going if he doesnt hold a big role in the new chelsea squad next season? carvalho maybe as he seems to not be required at real madrid? not the biggest name but a top player...........

I think Kaka unlikely... he turned down a reported £500k per week to move to Man City (just before he left Milan for Madrid) and he's still only 30-31. Lampard... I don't see it somehow, because of the geography as much as anything. He's got his young kids here, who wouldn't go with him as main custody is with their mother, and his fiance's career is here.
We've just got to look at the type of players who moved to J-League and MLS. And probably the lower end, because the other money-bags league these days is of course the Russian league. And there you've still got European football.

Messi lol good one but im glad the standard of Chinese football is getting better every year, its good for all of Asia. The next to go? Maybe Raul, Forlan, Del Pierro, Hleb, Luca Toni etc. The rich Chinese clubs should try to lure Ronaldinho, it would give the sport's profile a huge lift in the region.

To kabaddi21:
Ronaldinho has been a old story. Last season a northern club in china tried to sign him,but he denied it because not money but boring lifestyle without hot girls.

@kevinskyy
The club hoped to add some items into the contract with Ronaldinho including his timetable and living range.
So Ronaldinho denied.
In addition, the news about Ballack has spreaded in the china after he didn't lose the opportunities in a Moteral's club.
welcome Ballack. If he come to Shanghai, the club will be No 1 in the Asian league with
Drogba,Anelka,Ballack.
