When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Konstantin Willkomm put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Donato Gigli. A collision led to U21 Italy getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Daniele Lyon hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Konstantin Willkomm in the 21st minute of play forced U21 Italy's goalkeeper Donato Gigli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. U21 Germany had played much better football throughout.
