Lindo Sewele started the match with the kick off. Keylor Navas had in the 5thth minute some difficulties stopping Daniel Mafuna's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Ruben Paredes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafael Thebe having to interfere. Claudio Sanchez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Keylor Navas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thanyani Komani in the 15th minute of play. U21 Honduras's Keylor Navas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lindo Sewele in the 21st minute of play. In the 24th minute, U21 South Africa's Dumisane Sephiri seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Dumisane Sephiri the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of U21 South Africa protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Dumisane Sephiri had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 23 minutes into the game, one of U21 South Africa:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Thanyani Komani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Keylor Navas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 42nd match minute, U21 South Africa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Justice Mandela to maneuver through the defense. 46 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's Thanyani Komani sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Keylor Navas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

U21 South Africa's Bradley Etafia was substituted for Thanyani Komani. The wind increased when Claudio Sanchez made the kick off in the second half. Carlos Noyola hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Lindo Sewele received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Keylor Navas came out and tried to block the shot, but Lindo Sewele slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 59th minute. Alvaro Cortez kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. In the 63rd minute, U21 South Africa's Bradley Etafia dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. Keylor Navas didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 66th minute, which inside left pole to 1-3. In the 73rdth minute of the game Lindo Sewele who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Honduras's Keylor Navas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 85 minutes into the match, U21 Honduras's goal looked a bit too open when Lindo Sewele came free, but Keylor Navas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Honduras's zone, Lindo Sewele stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Keylor Navas came out of the goal and Lindo Sewele tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. U21 Honduras's David Suazo was substituted for Claudio Sanchez. Johannes Mangope's late challenge caught a U21 Honduras's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Johannes Mangope helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to U21 South Africa getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Johannes Mangope hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Ruben Paredes managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Honduras's supporters rose to their feet, but Ruben Paredes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rafael Thebe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. U21 South Africa's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
