Mefodiy Gitchenko made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Jurgen Kohler sent off a good shot on target. When Marco Zernicke fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Germany's protests and gave Marco Zernicke a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Barnabas Wuschech got free with Mefodiy Gitchenko in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Zernicke in the 37th minute of play forced U21 Ukraine's goalkeeper Mefodiy Gitchenko to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mefodiy Gitchenko showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marco Zernicke, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. The referee showed Ostap Rybkovskyi the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Ostap Rybkovskyi hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
If Damian Schick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 53 minutes of play, U21 Germany's Marco Zernicke made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mefodiy Gitchenko was left in no man's land by his defense there! Andriy Nazaruk who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 76thth minute tested the skills of Claude Ungerer when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 78 minutes into the match, Mykyta Dvoryanenko had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Claude Ungerer. U21 Germany's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mykyta Dvoryanenko was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. In the 81st minute of the match U21 Germany got a corner. U21 Ukraine's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Barnabas Wuschech ran over to the corner to take the kick. When U21 Germany's Marco Zernicke in the 83rd minute got a chance for a shot 83rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Ukraine's goalie prevented a goal. After a rather tough play, U21 Ukraine's Mykyta Dvoryanenko got a free kick in the 84th minute. In the 85th minute of the match Barnabas Wuschech sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mefodiy Gitchenko skillfully saved the ball. In the 87th minute, Barnabas Wuschech ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mefodiy Gitchenko was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Barnabas Wuschech in the 93rd minute of play forced U21 Ukraine's goalkeeper Mefodiy Gitchenko to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
