The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With his leg Caetano Leyte managed to avoid a goal in the 5thth minute, when Mexico's Silvestre Behe fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 6 minutes into the match, Colombia's goalkeeper Caetano Leyte had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Enzo Hunfredo. In the 7th minute Mexico were awarded a corner. Benicio Cheche went to the cornerflag to take it. After 9 minutes Colombia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Benicio Cheche who took care of the corner kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Silvestre Behe got free with Caetano Leyte in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 13 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Benicio Cheche. Caetano Leyte showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabriel Motowski in the 15th minute of the match. Fabio Txanton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iturri Alda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Desiderio Soter in the 22nd minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Caetano Leyte to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Mexico booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bastiaro Atencio didn't get a good kick on the ball. 27 minutes into the game, Mexico's Desiderio Soter nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Colombia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Benicio Cheche ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Benicio Cheche got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Caetano Leyte quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. A collision led to Colombia getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Iturri Alda hit a great ball. In the 94th minute César Montes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Caetano Leyte saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There was no doubt that Mexico were the better team. Mexico's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
