The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 10th minute of the game. One of U21 Slovenia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of U21 Belgium:s goal. Borut Mavrič had in the 11thth minute some difficulties stopping Christian Steenbecks's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Borut Mavrič came out of the goal in the 13th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Belgium's Christian Steenbecks. But to his dismay, Christian Steenbecks quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eric De Loose in the 15th minute of play forced U21 Slovenia's goalkeeper Borut Mavrič to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Borut Mavrič stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eric De Loose's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Christian Steenbecks in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Borut Mavrič saved U21 Slovenia from getting behind. After 23 minutes of play, U21 Belgium's Christian Steenbecks made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The audience thought a goal was coming when Častislav Intihar got free with Rolf De Winter in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Belgium's Kurt Van Der Elst quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Moreno Centrih, made in the 36th minute of the game. 37 minutes into the match, U21 Slovenia's goal looked a bit too open when Eric De Loose came free, but Borut Mavrič reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eric De Loose sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Borut Mavrič didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Christian Steenbecks went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. After having played for 46 minutes, Christian Steenbecks managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Belgium's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christian Steenbecks was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

Christian Steenbecks struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Borut Mavrič didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Belgium. U21 Belgium's Patrik Coekx was substituted for Emerson Celino. U21 Belgium's Jullian Van haeck was substituted for Christian Steenbecks. U21 Belgium's Pieter Reijnders was substituted for Robrecht Marant. In the 69th minute, Eric De Loose got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Eric De Loose who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 73rdth minute tested the skills of Borut Mavrič when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 73 minutes, Daš Čebulj mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Slovenia and the U21 Belgium players grew even worse after the yellow card. Daš Čebulj hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jullian Van haeck in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Borut Mavrič prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jullian Van haeck might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Borut Mavrič. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jullian Van haeck ran back to his position shaking his head. Borut Mavrič showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jullian Van haeck in the 77th minute of the match. 78 minutes into the game, Jullian Van haeck cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-7. Borut Mavrič was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 80 minutes into the match, U21 Belgium's Jullian Van haeck sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Borut Mavrič narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 82 played minutes U21 Slovenia got a freekick which was hit by Ive Šestić. Jullian Van haeck received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Borut Mavrič tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With an all-out effort, U21 Belgium's Borut Mavrič threw himself towards the right post 85 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jullian Van haeck, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Eric De Loose recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Borut Mavrič had great luck who in the 93rdth minute grab hold of the ball when Jullian Van haeck from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jullian Van haeck in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Borut Mavrič saved U21 Slovenia from getting behind. Jullian Van haeck struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Borut Mavrič didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Belgium. The U21 Belgium supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing U21 Belgium would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
