The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, U21 Belgium's Renaud Van de Putt got a free kick in the 2nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Collen in the 3rd minute of play forced U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Abel Verhaghe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 4 minutes into the match, U21 Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Klaas Jan Mol came free, but Abel Verhaghe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, U21 Belgium's Yanne Imbrechts got a free kick in the 5th minute. U21 Belgium's Abel Verhaghe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Klaas Jan Mol in the 9th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Klaas Jan Mol in the 11th minute of play forced U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Abel Verhaghe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dennis Beerthuis made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Ludo Verheecke sent off a good shot on target. In the 17th minute Klaas Jan Mol shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abel Verhaghe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferry Hebels in the 20th minute of play forced U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Abel Verhaghe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20thth minute of the game Klaas Jan Mol who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Belgium's Abel Verhaghe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. U21 Belgium's Abel Verhaghe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Klaas Jan Mol in the 44th minute of play. Ted Fokkelman kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Maxim-Alexander Leclerq was the one to do the kick off. 54 minutes into the game, Wim Bellinkx was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Klaas Jan Mol scored 0-4 in the 72nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Abel Verhaghe, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Abel Verhaghe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Klaas Jan Mol in the 79th minute of the match. 80 minutes into the match, Ferry Hebels dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Abel Verhaghe, 0-5. In the 84th minute, U21 Netherlands's Robert Collen dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-6. Abel Verhaghe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roelof Molenaar, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugo Andriessen in the 93rd minute of play forced U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Abel Verhaghe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match clock showed 93 minutes, the score became 0-7 when Hugo Andriessen sped through U21 Belgium's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Abel Verhaghe. U21 Netherlands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
