Igor Izãreanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ettore Mammarella in the 14th minute of play. Domenico Maurizi struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Igor Izãreanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Italy. Gheorghe Colibã could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Enzo Grassi made a huge save. U21 Moldova were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after U21 Italy's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Nichifor Ilies took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Mihail Stegaru got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Enzo Grassi quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. With an all-out effort, U21 Moldova's Enzo Grassi threw himself towards the right post 28 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gheorghe Colibã, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Demetrio Juliano during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
