With an all-out effort, U21 Moldova's Nichifor Nicolae threw himself towards the right post 13 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Anton Platon, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 16 minutes into the match, U21 Moldova's goal looked a bit too open when Dobrin Cormoran came free, but Best Junel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Romania's Nichifor Nicolae played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anton Platon in the 20th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, U21 Moldova's goal looked a bit too open when Dobrin Cormoran came free, but Best Junel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nichifor Nicolae made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anton Platon in the 22nd minute of play. Best Junel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Codrin Birișu, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Codrin Birișu took the ball and in the 27 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Best Junel. Best Junel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The supporters of U21 Moldova booed when U21 Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Codrin Birișu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 39th minute Codrin Birișu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Best Junel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Romania's Sabin Miclauș slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Best Junel. That made the score 0-3 after 67 minutes of play. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, Anatoly Karpov took a quick shot and it went in 0-6 without a chance for Best Junel to make any attempt to save it. The U21 Moldova fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. U21 Romania were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
