Tony Caine took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Makis Kokkosalis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Giorgos Lagonidis made in the 16th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Makis Kokkosalis however managed to control. An unexpectedly hard shot by Makis Kokkosalis in the 16th minute of play forced U21 England's goalkeeper Tony Caine to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The U21 England fans' excitement grew in the 18th match minute when U21 England's Simon Hylton looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Periklis Papadimakis was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. U21 England made a substitution. Kristopher Hurren replaced Charles Maclean. Giannis Kalabalikis was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Greece's players had a chance to rest. Tony Caine showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ntinos Kikidakis, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ntinos Kikidakis was the one to do the kick off. In the 56th minute, Ntinos Kikidakis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. U21 Greece made a substitution. The supporters of U21 Greece booed when U21 England was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gordon Talbot didn't get a good kick on the ball. Giannis Kalabalikis kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Tony Caine made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Makis Kokkosalis in the 95th minute of play. The U21 England players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented U21 Greece from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
