Roberto-Carlos da Silva was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Ricardo Domingues fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Portugal's protests and gave Ricardo Domingues a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, U21 Portugal's Ricardo Domingues got a free kick in the 24th minute. Ricardo Domingues kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Filipe Pereira in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roberto-Carlos da Silva saved U21 England from getting behind. 37 minutes into the match, U21 Portugal's Joel Azevedo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roberto-Carlos da Silva narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Roberto-Carlos da Silva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-1. U21 Portugal's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Mário Melo in the 87th minute. It was a well-played corner which Jacinto Mota managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. U21 Portugal's Ricardo Domingues got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 91 minutes of play, U21 Portugal's Fernando Aguiar made it 9-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Roberto-Carlos da Silva was left in no man's land by his defense there! Roberto-Carlos da Silva stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fernando Aguiar's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. U21 Portugal fully deserved thier win.
