U21 Romania's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Denis Angheluță in the 9th minute. Denis Angheluță made a great header on U21 Romania's corner, it was just that U21 Netherlands's Mickael Zevenhuizen managed to reach the ball for a save. Rareș Nicola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luuk Niemeyer in the 11th minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Netherlands's Klaas Nagel got a free kick in the 15th minute. The supporters of U21 Romania booed when U21 Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Klaas Nagel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mike Ross received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Mickael Zevenhuizen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Netherlands's goalkeeper Mickael Zevenhuizen, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bogdan Miheș during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luuk Niemeyer was the one to do the kick off. In the 77th minute Mike Ross shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mickael Zevenhuizen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mickael Zevenhuizen came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Mike Ross. But to his dismay, Mike Ross quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. The U21 Romania players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
